Nuttiest coaster trip you've been on?

I'm flying into Orange County over New Years, and am planning on doing both Disney Parks, SFMM, and KBF in 3 days.  Should be pretty strenuous

Back in 2000, I did Coastermania, got up at about 6 the next morning, took the SAT 2's at Sandusky High School on about 3 hours sleep, and then that night rode the Beast until late at night at the PKI URC day.

I know that these 2 trips are pretty take compared to what other people have done.  So lets hear your "I've done so many parks in so many days" stories or "riding coasters on no sleep" stories or "drove for 20000 miles to ride one coaster" stories etc......

Halloween Horror Nights at USF, 6 hours sleep, flight to St. Louis, layover, flight to LAX, drive up to PGA for last day of Stealth's first season.  That's a LONG drive for those of you not familiar with CA geography - for those who ARE, at 2 am I took the wrong road (99 instead of 5, I think) and went on the wrong side of "the valley".  Gotta be the wackiest 2 days in my life.  Also, it's quaint how, to residents, everything in CA is either "the mountains" or "the valley"...really helps out the rest of us!

Well, I did Hershey, PKD, and BGW all in three days. A few days before that I got to Funtown USA and Palace Playland. We drove through a total of 11 states on that trip.

In England, at the last minute we decided we could make it to Alton Towers and be back in time for the theater that night. We rushed to the train station only to find a huge line to get tickets. I spotted an automatic ticket machine which we decided to go for. We made the train to Stoke-En-Trent by less than five minutes.

We got there, and then took a 20 minute taxi ride though the beautiful countryside. We finally got to Alton Towers aka "Where the Hell are We?" It was wild, and we didn't ride everything we wanted, but it was a great time.

Hey ravenguy98, I will also be in orange county for the new year 12/31-1/4. Maybe I will run into you at one of the parks.

But back to the topic on hand, the nuttiest trip would be IOA, SW, and Three of the four DW parks in 4 days. I was so happy not to have to go to a park on the 5th day.

Did IOA, Universal Studios, MGM, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, BGT and Sea World each twice in eight days.  My vacations pack a punch.

Yes I have one, Happened this year

Took 2 and half weeks off work, and prepared for one awesome trip.

Firstly was a trip to Blackpool for a couple of days(Wednesday Morning to Sat Morning)and to visit the Pleasure Beach for One Full day(I'm talking 10AM to 8PM), a great day and we got loads of rides in. I left blackpool on the Saturday, and prepared for an even bigger trip
I took a trip to Ohio on the Sunday(Just 1 day after I got back from Blackpool and we went for 6 Full days) we Went to Cedar Point Twice, PKI Twice, and SFWOA Twice, It was absolutly exausting, but it was totally worth it
So Overall in about 2 weeks of mayhem, I managed about 45 Coasters,4 parks, 11 amazing days, long traveling times between parks, about 8hrs in the parks each day, And up early every morning to ensure we were some of the first people there. It made for a excellent trip, cause it was my first time to Ohio and my first trip to Blackpool for ages, but even though I came home absolutly knackered from all of it, It was all soooooo worth it :)

GREAT FUN :)

Oh yeah, my friend and I call it the "24 hour Coaster Excursion."  It was not only the nuttiest coaster trip of my life, but quite possibly the craziest thing I've ever done, period!  We decided at midnight that we would get up and 5 AM the next day and drive to Michigan's Adventure to experience the Timbers (a 4 and a half hour trip), and then while at MA, we decided to check out Indiana Beach (4 and half hours from MA to IB and then about 4 and a half back home).  What a day, the likes of which may never be paralleled in the rest of my coaster trips!

Here's a link to my trip report

-----------------
"It looks like they just decided to hang up wheat all over the park" - my friend Steve, describing the FearFest decorating at Kings Island.

Hmmm. Good question.

Let's see here. I have done some odd coaster trips in the last few years, but a few stick out in my mind as  the " What was I thinking?" type of trips.

In 1999, myself with 3 others went to 6 parks in one day. The order of parks we went to were Big Chiefs, Riverview Park, Timber Falls (no coaster but log flume and Skyscraper), Little-A-Merrik-A, Santa's Village, and SFGAm. That was a pretty cool trip actually.

In August of this year, I started a trip with a few other coaster nuts. The parks we went to in this 4 day trip were Visionland, SFOG, Wild Adventures, Miracle Stip, Jazzland, and City Park. We made it to Dixie Landin just as sections of Tropical Storm Barry hit, so we didnt' get to go inside the park.

I went back home for one day, then started another trip the next day. This time on the West coast. This time I did 18 parks in one week.  Some were small parks, others were large. The parks I went to were (Day 1) Upland Family Center, Scandia, Castle Park, Pharoh's Lost Kingdom, Belmont Park, (Day 2) Legoland, DCA (Day 3), KBF, Pacific Pier, (Day 4) Silverwood, (Day 5) PGA, SCBB, (Day 6) Oakland Zoo, Pixieland Park, J's Amusements, SFMW, (Day 7) Bonfonte Gardens, and SFMM.

To date, that was the most parks I have done one a single trip. It was a total blast. I did a trip report that can be searched on deja.com named the " Wacky Wild West Tour" for those that want to read about that trip. There might even be a DVD version released in the future. =:^)

Time,  June of 2001,

We started out with plans to hit 7 parks in 9 days as I like to enjoy a park all day to get a overal feel for it and to get specifically night rides on coasters at the parks.

We left Cincinnati at about 8pm on a friday and arrived in Altoona about 3am.  We slept in the van in the reclining captains seats, (Quite well actually) pulled off I-70 with the rest of the truckers :).

Saturday started at altoona with a morning drive into town to see the altoona railroaders museum and the NS railine that gose to horseshoe curve. Lakemont very early and walked over and overlooked it and took photos and then went back to the plaza outside the park to wait for opening,  I was shocked when several ACERS showed up, (Coaster Con was near) We had some nice chat time from 10-11am as we thought they opened at 10.  I loved the park but a couple thunderstorms rolled in and we left about three and headed up to Delgrossos,  Basically we did nothing at Delgrossos but walked around and had a slice of pizza.  It kept raining off and on and zyclon never opened so we split after about a hour and a half as I told my brother that we be able to get set up and stuff by dark at Knoebels.

We did but when we arrived, I was surprised they only had one spot left and there wasn't even enough room in the site to get the van, tent and table in!   We ate lunchmeat for supper as it was rainning hard and steady by the time we were set up and then headed for the park about 8:30  At night, never been there before I was lost in Knoebles! (Not a bad thing)  We kept making basically the same circle around whirlwind just checking it out.  About 9:45 I told my brother, "Lets ride Phoenix in the rain!!!" and wow,  I loved it!  That ended day one!

Sunday, We drove up to Scranton to go to Steamtown National Historic Site.  On my visit there in '97 they had about 4 operable steam engines along with about 30 other steam engines.  This visit they only had one operable as Govt. regulations state that they must recieve very stringent inspections on a two and five year basis.   Guess what?  The one operable engine was down for a boiler washout!  We were told that we would go up the mountain behind a GP7 GMD diesel, (Still a classic engine)  So we got on the excusion and went about 5 of the 13 miles and came to a stop on the mountain side!  My brother looked out the window and notice steam comming out under the engine! (Kinda jokingly we teased I guess this is a steamer after all!)  A short wait and we proceeded with the announcement that we would continue and mechanics would be waiting at the Laural station, (Our destination).  Well, We never made it!  After about 3 more miles we stopped and then got the announcement that we would not proceed and have to wait for another engine to get us back!  About a hour later three Canadian National Freight engines showed up and took us back down the mountain!  If it hadn't been for the freight waiting in the steamtown yard for us to return, I would imagine we would have been in for a long walk!  It kept raining and we did most of the museum, (Highly recomended) and then headed back for knoebels about 5pm,  After making super we went on another inspection tour in the rain,  We found the other end of the park! :)  At about 9:30 me and my brother again rode Phoenix and again loved it!  We then found the game room and were enthralled at the crowd gathered to watch DDR!

Monday,  All day at Knoebels with the pass and coaster option,  17 flyer rides, 15 twister rides and I lost count on Phoenix,  We got about 10 scooter rides and rode just about everything else at least once.  I found the answer to my question of "Why are there thousands of squirels comming down the mountain every morning?"  Those who know the answer know and I won't give it away.  Knoebels Rocks!

Tuesday was a day we left for travel and relaxation and we were off to Salem NH.!  Well what do we have about a hour into NH. But a sign that says amusement park this exit!  We had no idea what park or where it was, Just followed the signs to QUASSY!  Guess what?  We got to ride one of the only two left, GIANT MAD mouses and that other weird little herschel kiddie.  I think the park was in a beautiful setting and was very, very old.  Im glad we stopped! About 5pm we arrive at Gentiles Campground in Plymouth NH.  Steeples and graveyard everywhere here!  Little did we know that all that rain we were getting was a hurricane that came up the coast and Plymouth NH. had gotten 16 inches of rain.  I must say, don't stay at Gentiles, it is rundown and has a religious Nazi for a caretaker.  We are not anti religion or anything but we had the feeling the whole time that if so much as a cuss word was uttered that we would be put on trial and rebuked!  nevertheless it was our site for three nights.

Wed. Lake Compounce!  A very nice park with friendly ops and personel however after hitting everything in about 2hrs we found ourself doing the same 3 things over and over, Ghost Hunt, BD and Wildcat  We found BD to get better and better as the day went on and about 7pm it was dishing out some very good rides. However most of our rides were a feeling of something is missing,  It never seemed to deliver the airtime feast we had heard the coaster gives and looked capable of.  I did love the setting of the ride and it was a very fast coaster but BD based on those rides on that day is not among my favorites.  I would say it has the best setting though of any coaster I've seen and is a very good ride!   A thunderstorm cut our day short by about a hour but we had a very good day. Two things I recomend people do at LC is that SKYRIDE and of course none other than Kennywoods famous POTATO PATCH FRIES!

Thursday featured a trip up to SFNE,  First impression?  One gate at the parking lot open for a 45 minute wait to get intot he parking lot and then a $10 parking fee!  OK, it got better, Then much better!  First stop, SROS.  I was awed originally by Millie but after riding it again in the spring it left something to be desiered, Millie is not a bad coaster by any means but S:ROS Knocked it off the block by a long shot IMHO!  While SROS's First drop is not as airtime filled and long as Millie, The tunnel and supsequent second drop are AWESOME!  A fast taken low overbank into two huge airtime insanity hills followed by a twister ending make SROS my #1 non looping steel!  I really wanted to do SFNE for Riverside Cyclone and I was very concerned after already making the trip plans to hear that they were reprofiling it!  Let's just say I was still blown away!  Those drops that look like jr woodie drops are insane airtime in the backseat!  I love it so much that it is very much in my top 5 however it may not be your stile.

The park was darn near empty by 7pm and this allowed us to get over 25 ides on SROS, (So much that I was getting airtime bruises on the thighs!)     I loved SFNE,  It did have a couple drawbacks, The parking deal and one train on Cyclone and Thunderbolt but nothing to ruin the day and I came away loving the park!

Friday, 4hr drive down to SFGADV,  I will not go into a long TR on the park but say I did like it and I even liked the left side of RT.  Nice park!

Saturday:we had planned on making SFGADV our last stop but since dorney had the new Talon and Mouse we decided to stop there for a three hour tour,  Wow!  Talon was great and Laser and SF were as good as i remember,  Lazer is my second favorite looper behind FOF and SF is probably #4 on my hyper/giga list.  We were able to ride every coaster in three hours and a couple two and three times,  Is this the norm for a dorney sat?  I've been there twice and nobody was there!

We left about 4pm and made a 10hr dash from Allentown to Cincy to wrap it up!   2198 miles,  8 parks, (6of them open to close) and lots of fun in 8 Days

I don't to travel much seeing I spend too much time in Sandusky and inventory gets in the way but one of my all time favorites was riding my favorite steel coaster and favorite wood coaster in the same day.  Back in '98 I got the first ride of the morning on Shivering Timbers is seat 12 and I got the last ride of the night on Magnum in seat 13. :)

Hey Dan, those are my favorite wooden and steel too! What do ya know? The closest I've came to that is when I rode Magnum the last ride of the night and Timbers the first ride of the following day:).
Anyway, the nuttiest coaster trip I've been on is probably this year’s CP trip with my friends. We woke up at 4 and got home at 1 the next day...what a trip. We also got a few walk ons for MF, unbelievable rides on Maggie and Raptor, and an insane ride on Vertigo. Good times, good times.

How about 16 parks in 15 days?  We did that in July/Aug.  4000 miles and 550 gallons of gas (towing a camper).  We didn't even make reservations for where we were staying each night, but we managed to get into a campground each evening, including HW on a Sat night.  Would I do it again?  You betcha!  Most fun I've ever had!  - Sandy

One time I had a little too much of the honey roasted nuts at USF, got a little sick on Woody Woodpecker, and had a rather amusing time in the bathroom. I don't believe any trip was 'nuttier' than that.

It included about 10 extremely exhausting days at MK, Epcot, Disney Studios, AK, Blizzard Beach, USF, IOA, SWO, and BGT. I don't believe I've ever been more glad not only to finish a trip, but to finish getting over the nuts. That took a couple days.

Who's up for a Pecan Log? My treat!

I'm going on holiday in the 3rd week of January with my family to Byron Bay (Aussie's most easterly point, 10 hours drive north of Sydney.)

As I'm suffering from coaster withdrawal am planning on driving 2 hours north to the Gold Coast & hitting 3 of the parks there in one day. Dreamworld - Cyclone, Tower of Terror & Giant Drop. Movieworld - Lethal Weapon & Seaworld - Corkscrew. It should give me a big enough hit to last for a while. :)

Checking out Coasterbuzz one Friday evening back in June, I decided at 7:30 to Jump in the car and go to SFoG.  After 3hrs sleep in a rest area west of Chattanooga I got there at 8:30 AM then at five left and drove all the way back to Nashville, then made a stop at SFKK Sunday Afternoon.  I got back home 48 hrs after I left.

In Aug. I did Herseypark, SFGRAdv, Knobels, Lakemont, and Kennywood in 4 days.  Then Cedar Point two days later.  It really sucked Driving past Dorney at 7:00PM and not having time to stop.

Whats life if you never get to the Po!nt?

OK,let's see now. In the summer of 2000, Belmont Babe and I flew back to PA where we did KennyKon and Idlewild Park. We then rented a 25' Penske moving van and loaded it up with all her belongings and headed West. Our first stop was Kings Island. Got to ride Sonny on the ACE walk back. Did as much of the park as we could do. The next day we pointed the truck across the Ohio River to Kentucky Kingdom. As we pulled into the parking lot the attendent started to wave us through. Now I remembered it was about a week from the opening of the Kentucky State Fair. I pulled up to the booth and she said."you know where to park?" I said "I'm not with Cumberland Valley Shows." To which she replyed "Oops, I thought you were. thanks for stopping, here's were you have to go." Not the first time I've been mistaken for a carney. KK was not a bad park, but the food service was absolutely horrible. They were making two burgers at time. We waited over an hour for a burger and fries. Left there and got as far as Evansville, Indiana that night.  Next day our stop over was in Columbia,MO.We were headed for Kansas City and Worlds of Fun. It's a nice park, although we split the day in half, going back to our hotel room at mid day. The heat and humidity did us in. We went back late that afternoon and closed the park. The next couple of days we went parkless, stopping only for food, fuel and of course souvenier shopping (Including checking out Prarie Dog Town, and the worlds largest prarie dog). We arrived at our next destination, Colorado Springs, where we visited North Pole. It's a nicely done little theme park aimed more for younger children, but it has some really nice shops specializing in Christmas items (of course.)  Back on the road we head for Phoenix and Castles and Coasters. Spent a couple of hours there, rode both coasters, then back in the truck. We spent the night at the Space Age Lodge in Gila Bend (The Fan Belt Capitol of the World). You have to see this place to believe it. It was one man's vision of what space age lodging would be circa early 1960's.Up early the next day and we're in the home stretch, arriving in San Diego in the mid afternoon.

We had carefully planned this trip mapping out our itinerary, taking into account we were traveling in a truck this time instead of a car. We had to make sure all of the places we stayed could accomadate a large truck. We got used to eating at truck stops,as we couldn't park it most places we normally would have stopped. Still it was fun.

Flew into Detroit last summer, got in at about 11:00p. Didn't sleep that night as we left at 4:30 the next morning to drive to Cedar Point. After CP, I was the one who had to drive back to Detroit. I'd been awake for 36 hours or so, plus a three-hour time change. It wasn't that crazy, I guess, but it wasn't normal for sure.

I know I've got the longest trip to date.  In 1999 I spent 8months of my life riding coasters, while stopping at home every couple months for a week or two.  I put 60thousand miles on a brand new truck, and when I had to make an overnight drive, I'd stop at a TA and take a shower and watch a movie when I was tired.  It was a blast, and I hope that I never have to do it again :) - That trip took me a year of planning and prep.  I do plan on taking more incredibly long trips in the future, but as for 02, I'm only heading to the west coast, east coast, midwest, and a quick trip to georgia.  As for my next long trip, It'll be in 03.

"Joei!! WO!!"

Sheesh.  I've never been to more than two parks on one vacation.  I like to see *other* things too.  You know, like the city, other non-coaster attractions, historical stuff, scenic views, museums, shopping.  You all should try it! ;)
