NOthing new for CP in 2003?

Here is a new speculation to float your boat. Over the eMF construction winter and the WT construction, I was constantly reading the updates by Monty Jasper , Vice President of Maintenance and Construction at Cedar Point as he would write a few words about how things are shaping up for the building of these coasters. He has now posted his last comments about the wicked twister completion. See it at ://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/2002/wt/diary/index.cfm

His last comment is "Thanks for making the trip with me, and maybe I'll be talking to you again in a couple years."

Could this mean no major projects for the point next year????

If that is the case, I may need to get a prescription for prozac.

Cedar Point has a reputation for adding new attractions ever 2 years. Year to year building hits the budget pretty hard. (even though it is big) So they wait a couple years before building something else. 1996 was raptor, 98 was Mantis, 2000 was Millennium Force and 2002 Wicked Twister. (correct the dates if they're wrong). So, hence, 2004 will be the next attraction!

I think power tower was 98...mantis in 96 and raptor in 94.

if they are adding something would you expect them to say "Check in next year"I don't think so. Plus 2003 is the 25th Birthday if they most popular Coaster in the park Gemini I think they might do something special in 2003.

Yes its:

Iron Dragon - 1987
Magnum XL-200 - 1989
Mean Streak - 1991
Raptor - 1994
Mantis - 1996
Power Tower - I Believe 1998
Millennium Force - 2000
Wicked Twister - 2002

Wicked Twister has been open for 5 days and your already worrying that there won't be a new coaster next year?

yea. is that bad?

Honestly, I'd be willing to bet that Monty Jasper doesn't even know when the next coaster will go in. Things are on a need to know basis, and the next coaster project isn't pertinent to Monty's job right now.

It's a display of greed. Cedar Point was one of a small collection of parks to get a new coaster for 2003, and yet less than a week after Wicked Twister opens you're like "that was ok, now....WHAT NEXT?!!" Cedar Point already has a prized and glamorous collection of coasters, so why don't you just strap yourself in and enjoy what you have? Or should I say enjoy the 15 coasters that you have.

Kenzel said that the park lacked a luanched ride and a shuttle coaster and by building Wicked Twister we would have both. Nothing in their saying, "Wicked Twister will keep the crowd busy for now until we finish our B&M terra flying coaster for 2003."

With the way some people are acting, I think that Cedar Fair shoud have just built Wicked Twister at Valleyfair! where the enthusiasts and public would cherish having such an amazing and wicked coaster, not toss it out of their system like last Tuesday's roast.

How can people ritecule the CP fans for speculating. Theres obvious proof at the old Dodgem site that somethings being constructed. I could understand people getting annoyed if theres was no proof...but there is.

I'm pretty sure that the vice president in charge of building and maintaining rides not only knows what's going on, but has a say in what ultimately goes in. This is the guy who has to budget for parts, repairs and mechanics.

That said, I'm sure they're all sitting up there scratching their heads at how coaster geeks take the stupidest little thing and blow it completely out of context.

I wouldnt be surprised if CP didnt get a huge thing for next year. To tell you the truth, i think its just gonna be a flat ride. But thats just my opinion. Its probably something much bigger than that. I would be happy if CP stuck to there normal trend of every other year. But, dont get me wrong, if they wanna put in a coaster this year, I will be just fine with that.

I think it would be good for the park to take a year and get some fresh flats. While in no way bashing the line up that is there (which is quite extensive I think), they are lacking in new spin and pukes. I would clearly be excited more for another coaster, but there are so many other aspects to the park that can be improved upon.

They were doing it for SFMM two weeks before X opened. But SFMM has added a ride every year since 97 (97 Superman {was supposed to open 96}, 98 riddler, 99 caynon blaster {junior}, 2000 Goliath, 01 goliath jr. Deja Vu, 02 X {supposed to open in 01}) I've heard rumors of a Flying coaster behind Batman called Nightwing, CP and SFMM will be competing for the title for years to come, this is a great time for coaster enthusists because both parks, and all parks for that matter, will try to out do the others.

i don't think this is greed or anything like that.... but i'm curious about what's coming in for 2003 because of the fenced off construction and footers. If they didn't have that there, i don't think i'd be all that curious about 2003. You only have so many packets of 8-figure wads of cash to throw around amongst a number of parks in a chain each year.

I'd be happy if CP got one or two new cutting edge flat rides for 2003.

I'd sure like to know what coaster CP is getting next year. I'd sure hate to take my time and enoy what we have now, that's unheard of!!

We all know SFA's building streak! Maybe that will pick up again next year.

I had time to think about this whole thing today and I seem to believe that CP will not in fact get a coater next year but will get some major attraction in 2004 as per the recent history and Monty Jasper's comments. I would love to see CP get something in 2K3 however it looks pretty slim of a chance if you ask me.

This is the guy who has to budget for parts, repairs and mechanics. Two reasons why I said what I said: 1. I Didn't know he was a VP, but doesn't it depend on whether he is on the Board of Directors? I just assumed that's where all the big decisions are made.

2. When I talked to Tom Jones, Monty Jasper's equivalent at SFWoA during the X-Flight construction tour, I asked if he knew what the plans were for next year (Not expecting him to actually tell me). He said he didn't know anyway because no one tells him these things. Obviously Six Flags and Cedar Fair are quite different in their management structure, but the jobs are basically the same: Build rides, make them work.
