Not a good start for PKI

Yeah Comatose, but like @ SFA there were several people complaining saying "We saw Colby (from Survivor 2) riding it. So we know it works!" It just doesnt pass the "Smell Test" for me.

Besides, if we were really shutting down people we disagreed with, would Jeremy (2Hostyl) still be around? :) I think not. - Jeff 1/24/02

Oh boy.... an "Office Space" reference. Thats just Greeeeaaaattt.....
In fairness, there was a mention in one of the many media day reports of some funny noises coming from the ride gondola later in the day, and a note that the water sprays had been toned down a bit...

I guess it's a little like the elephant on The Wild Thornberries River Adventure that was showering riders with a gorgeous spray for media day but by opening day had developed severe congestion that lasted the whole season...

Media Day is usually the first time the ride has operated after commissioning. The manufacturer's rep is still standing by as the festivities commence. The people operating the ride may not even be the normal crew yet. None of the equipment has been operated enough to have a chance to break yet.

So the park brings in the VIPs and the cameras and those folks are the ones who have the first opportunity to break the ride.

Hey, it happens. And it doesn't help that this is a ride system that has never been installed anywhere before. I know that last year after our first rides on the Rugrats Runaway Reptar Roller Coaster a few of us had a lengthy "punch list" of minor issues with that ride, things that were obvious to us riders, but which had been overlooked in the installation because the ride had never carried real people yet. (Issues which, by the way, were almost all addressed before opening day...).

There's a phrase for it, but it's mostly unbroadcastable. Once people have a chance to beat on the ride a little, then they can get those kinks worked out.

(heck, it took them five years to get Flight of Fear right; Tomb Raider has been open for...what...five hours, perhaps?)!

Well I just got home bout an hour and a half ago and after typing TR's everywhere I saw many disappointed people from last night such as myself. I didn't really give the ride op's crap last night. I was trying to be friendly and got crap from Jeremy. I do think the ride potion is great and worht it too. The effects are so good and stuff. Truse me you won't be disappointed.
Was TR:TR running all day, or most of it?
was up at pki today rode tomb raider and it was awesome.

TR:TR was up and running all day today while I was again at the park.

I was present for last night's season pass sneak preview as well when it did not run. Please note, the park had signage posted outside the gates and also presented all people with a special paper prior to entering the parking lot that specified rides might not operate. Included on those signs and on that paper was a very clear statement that TR would run, but possibly experience downtime as they work out the rides continuity and dependability issues.

I was the one Dave spoke of that mentioned that on media day the ride DID experience downtime. The water was turned off because of an effect it was having on the ride.

Today the ride ran, but only operated with the front and back rows being used. Reason? Restraint issues.... related to H20. The water giesers were back, but do not hit riders.... just taunt.

Dave,

Nice to see you are thinking along the lines of ' things happen and should expect to happen' instead of ' they did this just to tick guest off'.

beast-rocks,

Exactly what do you mean by PKI 'pulling this'? Do you honestly think the park did this on purpose? I think not.

The ride is INDEED a new type of ride and is going to have some growing pains. Tomb Raider is a world's first. Just because it may have some similarites with other rides doesn't mean it will operate like those rides.

I rode today, Friday and all three rows were operating.

I liked the ride alot and I am going to say this much about all the whining that people gave the park thursday night.

10 minutes after the park opened they were telling people to go enjoy other attractions, That is was going to be a while before it opened, IF at ALL.

Americana is opening in 2002 and needs your support as many company picnics are already schedualed for someplace else, Indivdual visits are very improtant to the parks survival.

Shaggy,

I was at the park today and rode TR:TR on I believe the second ride to the gp at about 11:20. When I rode, all three rows of the ride were being used. I love this ride, and wanted to ride it a second time, but due to a full queue, I had to ride rides with my cousin, who is 50 inches tall and mad that he can`t ride TR:TR

I`ve ridden Son of Beast 67 times!

Dave nailed it. Look at X.......a little patience wil award you years of fun. I'm giving it two chances this weekend, both walkback times, and if I don't get on it, there will be next time. Even though it's not a coaster, I try to show the same level of anticipation and respect. I grew up with this park and know they will do what they need to get it right (the "Bat" days are gone, let's hope!).

Den, I must commend you on your profile pic! WOW! What year was that taken?
