Northern California?

I was really wondering about PGA and SFMW. I am possibly planning a trip to San Fran. and I would like to hear about people's experiances in these parks. Any info is great. Thanks!

I am planning a trip up there near the end of the 2000 season myself. The 2 parks look good to me. Stealth, baby, one of a kind. Medusa, only floorless on the West coast.

I'm there!

Sorry that I don't have any input on the subject, PT300

Gotta ride 'em all!
Anyone been to PGA of SFMW?
Ive been to SFA. It is a good park. Nothing Spectacular, but a good combination of coasters. We went last summer and the Stealth was completed but not yet opened so I cant tell you how that ride is. But i can tell you that we did pass SFMW on the way back to our hotel, and it didnt look as good as SFA but I havent been there so i couldnt tell you, but SFA is defianately a must-go park
As long as your up in those neck of the woods don't forget the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! Nothing like the Giant Dipper!
I been to both Great America and Six Flags Marine World. Marine World is way better than PGA, it has Medusa the only floorless coaster in the west, and the only coaster in the world to feature a double super loop, and has North California's tallest drop of 150 feet.(http://www.geocities.com/extremescreams2/medusa/media.html) (http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/airtime82/medusa_grounds.htm)
Also it features a wooden twister coaster by CGI, the only current wooden coaster to use their new types of trains, which give a very smooth ride, no bumps. It is one of the top wooden coasters. And the park only has an inverted coaster and a boomerang coaster. Also the lines arent that long, I went on a Sunday and the line for Medusa was only 15 minutes with only two trains running, the ride has a max of running 3 trains. At PGA all of their rides are clones of other rides in the US, ex. Stelth. The line for it is usally 3-4 hours even on weekdays.
Yeah, if you are in the area you definately have to go on the giant dipper, it is an incredible ride. The start of it is my personal favorite on any ride in the country. But im not gonna give it away to you so get out there and ride it.
Guys be truthful, PGA is WAY better than SFMW. Marine world has 4 coasters. You need to hands almost to count how many Great America has. The rides there are great but there is not nearly enough of them!!!!! Santa cruz is better than Marine World. I think you should go to all three or 2. They all have there possitives and negitives.
Im going to have to agree with Todd that PGA is way better than Marine World. But where I disagree with Todd is when he said the Santa Cruz boardwalk was better than Marine World. The Giant Dipper is a great ride, but doesnt size up to an entire park.
I'd have to say I think the quality of roller coasters at SFMW is way higher than that of PGA. Medussa happens to be one of my fav. roller coasters. Roar is an excellent wooden coaster. Kong scared the hell outta me...I was constanly lifting my feet because you come so close to hitting obstacles, such as other parts of the track. Boomerang is also a very good coaster, not one of the greatest, though. PLUS...the lines are the shortest I've seen in ANY theme park...a 15-20min. wait on a brand new roller coaster (Medussa) is incredible. *** This post was edited by Richard on 7/19/2000. ***
Put me down for SFMW too, a much better overall park than PGA could ever hope to be. PGA may have more coasters, but with the exception of Stealth and Top Gun, all the other rides suck, and are all low capacity, so you wait an hour for everything, even on weekdays. Stealth, although a great ride, is another low capicty coaster, has minimun 2hr lines from the minute the chain drops. Plus the park is ugly as hell with all the trees ripped out and the original Marriott theming painted over in multi-colored neon for Paramount crap. Feels more like your at a ugly tacky carnival than a theme park.

Now SFMW, sure they only have 5 coasters(people forget about Cobra), but remember, they just started adding rides 3yrs ago. And already the park is way more beautiful and amazing than PGA. And as stated, Medusa and Roar pack a one-two punch much better than anything at PGA. Then all the latest in flat rides are here, all beautifully themed, you gotta do the Huss Frisbee(Tazmanian Devil), that ride is such a blast! Then all the animal attractions, shows, and exhibits are all top notch and facinating. Many people say SFMW reminds them of BGT, it's that well done.

If you want to just ride coasters(most of them lame)and nothing else, go to PGA. But if you want an overall great park experience with 2 of the best coasters out here, plus the best ride package in the area, go to SFMW, you'll have a great time. Just my opinion :)
Park experience? SFMW has a LONG way to go to having any kind of experience. And the employees and security is NON-EXISTANT! Line jumping is rampant at this park. Medusa is cool, but has NO forces what-so-ever. Roar is great also, but SFMW's coasters are cream puffs. Put me down for PGA!
