I think you can disable sounds somewhere in the options menu. I know its somewhere, since I've done it. I do miss the mute button, though. It really made it run faster, since the disc wouldn't spin to access carousel music and the like.
You can hold Alt and press tab to toggle between your desktop and the game window. If you want to turn off the sound, you can use the TRG trainer for rct2. I no longer have the link, but if you search the web for TRG trainer you can find it .

Well that would be fine but I like to listen to music when I am playing RCT2!
My keyboard has some volume controls on it, so I just hit the mute button when need be. The lack of a windowed option ticks me off though.

I think opening the park window turns off sound..... not sure though.

If you never heard of or seen it, there's a control on your computer speakers called VOLUME. Turn it down!
