It was up for like 2 minutes before people started posting stuff about it.  Wow.  That was fast.
I don't know, I just went there and checked it.

Actually...

There are a whole lot more significant changes than I thought there would be in the patch. I already found some more minor bugs with the patch...

...But...

with the inclusion of the "track pack"... all I can say is:
WOW!!

Some of those tracks REALLY show some effort not necessarily in the design as much as the atmosphere. Who would have thought you could theme a coaster. I especially like the Effile Tower track, Star Wars track and a few others that really put the supports to use as part of the theming.

I've tried that before, and I know how cumbersome making a wooden coaster is out of steel supports... but making a space shuttle, tie fighter, X-wing fighter, and a very excellent re-creation of the Effile Tower is top notch. I give much credit to whom ever created those tracks.

I can't download it.  When I try to, it says that I nedd version 1.  I already have the frist version, but it still won't let me downlaod the patch.  By the way, what bew stuff is there????????

I Survived Millennium Force!

1.) Millennium Force 2.) Steel Eel 3.) Raptor 4.) Mantis 5.) Magnum XL-200

Eiffel Tower Extreme was created by Phyter, who is the best NoLimits designer out there, in my opinion.  At Coastersims.com, you can also get Ricochet by him, which I think is pure genius.  I'm honored that Ole decided to put Steel Comet in the track pack (quite a surprise to me), considering the hundreds of great tracks that have been released.  Ride Op got his tracks included as well, and deservedly so....amazing stuff.

It still doesn't fix the jerks around vertices.

ummmmm, i guess.  you just need to know how to use the editor in order to get those out( i mean REALLY know how to use it), i rarely have trouble with bumps...

That's crap... Bezier curves don't have bumps in them. The "solution" to the problem is people creating circles with flat sides on it. I think not.

It's been known for a long time that this patch was only to help compatibility, add the track browser, and give more tracks, and wasn't going to change the functionality at all.  That will come later.

Jeff, somewhere in between the jerk from the curve not being big enough and the circles with flat sides is a point where it's perfectly smooth.  It takes a ton of patience to find every single one of these points, but usually if you get close no one will care that there is a light jerk.  It's only if they are major that people really notice them.  Sure it's not easy to do, but it is possible.

But anyways Ole is still looking into ways to refine it so that it won't take hours to find all those perfect spots for the curves.

I'm still telling you your wrong. I've been animating things on Bezier curves for about four years and when implemented correctly there are no bumps, period. It's a flaw in the software, not the people using it.

It says I need full install version 1. I do. And I believe that it is in the default directory. What's going on?

Well if it didn't automatically patch the game then you did not install to the default directory.  Reinstall the game and don't change where it installs, then run the patch again.

Jerr, If I'm not mistaken the Badnitrus guys use Bezier curves, and I've seen some slight jumps and jerks in their pov videos.  But anyways, it's a difference of opinion here; you believe that the engine is flawed and that it's impossible to make the curves without jerks in them, and while I don't disagree that jerks are present, I maintain that it is still possible to find that one perfect sweetspot where there is no jerk.  It's not easy, but it's there.  If it's possible to have jerks that are stronger than others, then it is absolutely possible to keep taking steps that minimize those jerks to a point where they are no longer noticable.  Sound reasonable?

a lot of that information on the 2nd paragraph can be said to some of the people on Coasterbuzz who like to SPAM & get banned. :)

Thanks Ride_Op, that helps me alot. I was having probs with the curves and now i know to look for the sweet spot.

Jeff, there are a ton of different ways that you can adjust the track at the vertices, If you dont do it 100% perfectly right, you are going to get that bump. I've only done it once, but thats why its a Simulator, not made to be the best out there, but it gives a somewhat accurate representation of the real thing. So, Until Ole decides to make a button that says "Make it Perfect" don't expect to have it work 100% of the time. As for the Circles with the Flat Sides, your right, it doesnt happen. But It comes close...

Ride_Op: Sure, it's possible, but you shouldn't have to fight it like that. I showed Keith (Badnitrus) the problem and he agreed that even with a poorly composed curve that shouldn't happen. Ditto for the dozens of animations I've done in After Effects, where you can look at it on a frame-by-frame basis and see precisely what happens at a vertex. Perhaps I should whip up a QuickTime to show you what I mean.

Mind you, so we're all on the same page, I'm not talking about lateral train shifting, which comes from long curves with too many points, I'm talking about an inverted train on a relatively long radius curve that hits potholes where the vertices are. Trust me here... I know the difference between a poorly made curve and a bump that shouldn't be there.
