Nitro - Magnetic Brakes???

I recent trip report mentioned Nitro's "new magnetic brakes". Did I miss something, or was this person misinformed? I don't see why Nitro would need magnetic brakes. If it ain't broke.....

Thanks in advance!

they probably smoothed out the brakes at the end so you dont get slammed. and it probably feels magnetic, i dont see how it can have magnets.
There are new Mag Brakes on Nitro. They were just added this year. Last year, on the final brakes, the fins caught extremely hard and it hurt like a mofo when you hit them. this year, with the Mag Brakes, it comes to a much smoother stop. No, the entire brake run isn't mags. It's only at the beginning for the main slowdown. You can see the fins on any seat...just look down in front of you underneath the forward car...they link off the top of the normal fins. Also, take a look down the brake run and you'll see the mag brakes in place above the fin brakes.

Kyle pretty much explained it. The magnetic breaks, however, are the only breaks on the first break "strip". Then, you feel the pain of the friction brakes as you hit the second, only it isnt as painful as before.

I dont think they're on the midcourse, either.

See my TR for more info.

How much more floorless can they get?

Yes Kyle is right. I am a ride operator on Nitro, and the first set of service brakes are magnetic. You can tell when you are riding bc the don't amke the normal soudn the others hit. You can really feel the difference if you are in the back of train. I still think it jolts u a lil when sitting in the front.
