Night Time Coasters

MF is awesome at night as well. If the magnificent lighting wasn't enough, the 300 ft. plunge into the dark abyss can take your breath away, literally!

I'mm agree w/ Jim Fisher:  SFA's SROS is great during the day but amazing at night.  I hope they never extend the park back towards the first helix as I love how dark it is back there.

Other obvious choices for good nighttime coasters: Raven, Legend, Bouderdash, Ghostrider, Timbers [or so I've heard] and almost any other wood coaster.

I try to get night rides on every coaster I go on. I'm not always successful, but I think I have managed to do most of them.

For me, some of the best night coasters are Boulderdash, Phoenix and Excalibur. Excalibur is at Funtown in Saco, Maine. If you can get a night ride on this coaster, do it! It will really amaze you.

Magnum at night is spectacular if for nothing else than the second hill.  When you crest that hill and look out into the giant pool of black ink that is Lake Erie, you can't help but feel as if you're in a dream.

Also beautiful at night - the American Eagle at SFGAm.

Forget about coasters at night... how about bungee jumping at night... or better yet being thrusted in the air on the startosphere at night... now that's living :)

I just thought of another one:  Millennium Force.  My very first ride was in the back seat at about 10pm.  I happened to recognize my ride op as a friend who had worked on Ghostrider at Knotts the year before.  He gave me a wink and let me have a little room beow the lap bar.  At the top of the lift everything was pitch black.  I couldn't see the bottom of the drop or the ground underneath, and that really enhanced the sensation of falling and the steepness of the drop.
Whoa, that brings back so many memories Olsa, my best rides on Magnum-XL were at night. Breathtaking. Raptor at night is quite an intense experience as well.

But my favorite ride at night has to be the "baby" B&M Top Gun(PGA). I have said before, I'll say it again, the final helix over water is my favorite moment on any coaster, wood or steel.

Nito is great at night, you are in pure darkness when you go back into the woods. you only see a little yellowness from the nitro track

Go Eagles! Bring on the Bears

Nitro is great at night! You go into the woods the entire ride and you can barely see anything! You feel like your goin 100 mph faster!
I have stated all along that wooden coasters are faster the colder it is.  When is usually the coolest time of a parks operation hours?  10-Midnight!

Chuck, who knows the bearings need to be warm but coasters run faster when the track is closest to being In Guage and not expanded from heat.

The Raven is awesome at night, but The Legend is God-like. Going through those woods at extreme speeds with all the laterals is great!

Magnum is definitely better at night with the great ejector air of those bunny hills.

Raptor is also very extreme at night. My last two rides of the season were on Raptor, and I could feel the blood in my legs pooling in my feet!

Anyone here ride Zeus at Big Chiefs at night. If you haven't, you're truly missing something. It is so much fun at night in the woods, pitch black, you go out of controll with so much air-time it's not even funny. What's best about it is that you get to ride the circut twice, but is still counts as one ride. Since the breaks are manual, one time the operator stopped the train too late and the whole front car was out of the station, which meant we got to go a third time. That is one of the greatest rides alone, and at night it's even better.
What a great topic!

Hands down for me (and my wife) is The Legend.
That thing is complete insanity at night.

After the first drop, you can't see ANYTHING!

The lateral G's are so surprising, that I find myself actually holding on! Something I don't do too often. (see my personal photo!)

Umm....The Legend.......Can't wait for SRM!

Did I mention, that I like coasters...

I love riding Viper at SFGAm at Night,  I like it in the day too but its great at night.

BKF at night is magical! Even though they have some lights on the Cobraroll, the helix ending and most of the ride is on the darker side. Night+ERT+4 People on each train + silence, all you can hear is the train itself, no screams = magical! :)

It's all about the Legend. There's dark, and then there's no-moon, out-in-the-Indiana-woods dark. Now, add in the most brutal CCI I've had the privilege of so far, a complete package of drops, laterals, airtime, and a vicious helix. Complete the mixture with 4 of the loudest tunnels ever. Apply enthusiasts liberally and stir. Ahhhhh.

Runner-up status to: Raven, Beast, Phoenix, S:ROS (SFA), Ghostrider, and X.

For wood it is a toss up between The Legend and Boulderdash. I have had some of the most amazing coaster rides on both at night. There is nothing like flying through the woods in pitch black darkness. For years The Beast was my favorite and is still one of the best and could improve if they would turn off all of the lights on the track. The best one time experience was the lights out ERT at the ACE SpringCon on The Boss. My first ever ride on there in pitch black darkness and not knowing where the double dip was going to drop was amazing and that ride is simply the most intense CCI Woodie out there.
For steel I would have to say MF. I have only gotten one night ride on it but that one ride was enough to make what was a bad day at CP better.
