Night Rides

What rides do you know are great in the day, but simply become insane at night-time? Although I have yet to ride Raven during Stark-Raven Mad, I do think that Batman: The Ride (any location) is simply FANTASTIC at night! I rode it in the front at 10:30 on thursday night, and it seemed to be keeping a steady 70MPH the whole run! An incredib le experience! MF, Goliath, and Steel Phantom are also expeptional in the dark.
The Beast at PKI
NOTHING can compare to MF during the night. The lights on the supports, the height, and dropping into darkness make for as absolute AWESOME ride. When you drop, you can't see the track because there are no lights at the bottom of the hill or on the 2nd hill. Another thing that is awesome, is that if you look "under" the track on the over-banked turns you can see Mean Streak and the Giant Wheel. It seems so much faster at night. The island is cool beacuse of the flood lights pointed at the track.

Most every coaster I've been on at night was better than in the day. It's a combination of lighting (or lack thereof) and the fact that most coasters tend to "warm up" later in the day.

I know this isnt a coaster, but the Big Shot on top of the Stratasphere in Vegas was insane at night.

The BEAST, BIG SHOT ride, DESPERADO, BOULDER DASH, LIGHTNING RACER and most coasters have a special extra something at night. And as my friend JMT and I can attest, riding Millennium Force after 9pm in the front seat has an extra bonus, you get covered with bugs! The station attendants warned us about the bugs but we didn't care... It was hilarious trying to dodge them and back at the station poor Jason's white t-shirt was splattered with dozens of little carcasses. It was wild, exhilirating and totally insane... the VERY reason I ride!

Even better than at night:
When I worked at Cedar Point, I was on the crew that rode the Gemini to break it in every morning in the early season. The fog was still in at that time -- you would be at the top of a hill and see the rest of the coaster vanish in the mist. Best I've ever ridden!
The Zues at Big Chiefs kart and coasters is definitely cool at night. As soon as you plunge down the first drop it races into a forest preserve with no lights. You can barely see the track in front of you.
I remember riding the Comet at Crystal Beach years ago during a Western NY Coaster Club meet. The ERT was after the park had closed and all of the lights on the coaster were off.It was a moonless night the track disappeared once we were out of the loading platform. You could feel the spray coming off the lake, but you couldn't see it. It left many of us speechless.
Millennium Force. Nuff said!

right about now you are about to be possesed by the sounds of DJ MFORCE
I really liked Top Gun: The Jet Coaster at night, especially diving under the walkway near the south entrance. Really fun!
The three best rides at night that I've ever ridden are all at Cedar Point. They are Magnum, Millenium Force and Raptor. The Magnum is twice as thrilling at night due to lack of lighting, especially at the end of the out-and-back. And Millenium Force is just incredible, there is no other way to describe it.
I'll go with the Beast for a night ride. Especially when they don't have the lights on in the second tunnel. It's so pitch black in that tunnel you feel you are in oblivion, and you don't know when you are going to come out of that tunnel.

Can you take me higher? (CREED)
I think I liked MF better during the day. The insane height was much more noticable.

My favorite night ride so far has been the Legend at HW during Stark Raven Mad. This is a fantastic coaster during the day, but at night, oh my. If you like riding in pitch black, you'll love this one. I literally could not see anything. The only lights on were the ones in the station. None on the ride, none in the woods, none in the tunnels. And HW makes it even darker by having very minimal lighting in the park -- it was sometimes hard to see the paths when walking. Raven is also very, very good during this event.
My favorite night ride is the Viper at SFGAM. There are no lights so you can't see where you are going. This really adds to the effect of the headchoppers that are everywhere on this ride as sometimes I think I'm lucky to still have my hands...
Oh also I just made a trip to Knott's Berry Farm on monday, so I just HAVE to say something for Ghostrider!

Steel Phantom Pleasures: 150 total, 60 one day
Magnum is wild at night IMO. One night It was windy and I had a slight-moderate windburn on my face...I loved it!

Raptor is my #1 steel coaster, and I love it even more at night. However, the ride that is most *improved* at night has to be the Beast. This coaster's speed seems to be enhanced as the day goes on, and a dark ride through the Beast's back woods is intense. Bonus points also for absolute darkness as the Beast howls through those double helix tunnels under cover of night.
All rides are better at night in my opinion. Power Tower was the best though. Maybe it was those colorful lights on it, or maybe it was because I was just having too much fun!
