Nickelodeon leaving television production unit in Orlando

Cable network Nickelodeon has plans to abandon a television production operation at the theme park resort at the end of June. Less than 10 people will be laid off from the Nickelodeon production unit, which has been at Universal Studios since the Florida theme park opened in 1990.

as the new Nickelodeon hotel opens near Disney World (that place is HUGE)
Amazing..... This was a major key in nick before moving most of the productions to CA and Canada... now they are laying off the rest of the 10 people... perhaps Universal will hirethem to work with their facilities?? I know they have things filming there on and off throughout the year...
I didn't know a NICK Hotel was opening at Disney. Looks like I got a place to stay. Is it on Disney Property?

This really doesn't suprise me, expected it sooner, what with Nick being Paramount and all. I wonder if the Nick area at USH will go eventually as well, or if they'll keep a hold on the licensing?

That part of the park was quite empty and fairly useless this spring break. I still think the should put something else back there. Looks like they will havw the building/space now. Also, I think it would be nice if they offered a direct park-to-park walkway to/from Seuss at IOA from this spot. They are so close, yet you have to go through Hard Rock and all the way back to the main entrance to park hop...
the Nick hotel is on 536 right near I4 and as soon as you go over I4 its Disney property.
The hotel is actually branded as a Holiday Inn with "Nickolodeon Kid Suites". I don't know if it's a Intercontinental Hotels licensing deal with Viacom, or something that an individual franchisee worked out...

I'm kind of sad to see Nick Studios go. 11 or 12 years ago, Nickelodeon filmed almost all of it's live action shows at USF, but in more recent years the studios have sat empty.

Oh well, maybe this could be a nice place for future expansion of IoA and USF.
