I've found a couple of buildings in Nashville to be pretty cool looking when I drove through it going to Orlando, but that's a bit off topic.
Valleyfair: If you want to drive 15 minutes you should really hit up the Mall of America in Bloomington.
Six Flags St. Louis: They too have a pretty decent Science Museum. I also want to point out that Grant's farm was once the residence of a former US president (Ulysses S. Grant)
Six Flags Great America: Folks, I can't believe how many of you people are leaving out the best ball park experience in the world. Wrigley Field is here folks, you'll never find a better park.

Excalibur Crew for 2002!
rollergator, the ESPN main headquarters are about 5 minutes from LC. Great place to visit but you have to call ahead.
If you go down to Tampa for BGT, it is a must to see the Salvador Dali musuem. It is the most comprehensive collection of his truely bizarre but amazing works.
SFNE- The basketball hall of Fame is about 10 -15 minutes away from the park in Springfield. Very fun place to go for a few hours especially for a hoops fan like me. I believe they are building some sort of expansion to the Hall of Fame, so its going to get even better. March madness starts in three days! No better sporting event exists than MM.

Orlando - My wife would say the Belz Outlet but I like Pointe Orlando and Olde Towne.
Sandusky - I'd go with Put-In-Bay (if you are old enough to appreciate it.)
Williamsburg - The docks in Norfolk and the beaches.
Pittsburg - Dinner at any of the Mt. Washington restaurants.
For some parks I have visited recently...
BGT: The Florida Aquarium, one of the best aquariums I have ever been to. Can't believe Ybor City hasn't been mentioned. Ybor City is one of the best nighttime entertainment strips I have been too. There is a museum of science and industry I keep passing on the way to Busch that I might visit someday. There is also the beaches.
IOA, et al. Orlando: We checked out this Titanic exhibit the last time we were down there and it was OK. There is also some alligator place I keep hearing about and keep meaning to check out. Less than 40 miles away is Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center.
Cedar Point: Put In Bay on South Bass Island. For those romantics out there, this is a great romantic get away spot. Reachable only by ferry you can only take your car across if you are staying more than a couple days. Everyone gets around the island on golf carts which can be rented all over the island. There are some good vinyards on the island as well as Perry's Victory Monument. My wife and I checked this out on our visit to CP last summer. Don't forget to check out the world's longest bar while you are on the island.
Big Chiefs: The Wisconsin Dells has so much to offer besides just Big Chiefs. It has the largest waterpark in the US at Noah's Ark plus two other major water parks besides Noahs. There are also some really good boat tours of the scenic Wisconsin River where there are rock formations that can only be found there and in Potsdam Germany. The Dells also has some of the best go-karting to be found as well as the best in extreme thrill rides.
SFGAm: This is my home park and there is tons to do and much of it has been mentioned already. One that hasnt been mentioned is the Bristol Rennaisance Faire which runs from late June to late August just north of the Illinois/Wisconsin state line off of I-94. This is considered by many to be the best Rennaisance Faire in the country. An hour north of the park is the Beer City, Milwaukee. Here you can find the Harley Davidson headquarters(they are building a museum now too), the Milwaukee County Zoo which is always touted as the number 2 zoo in the country right behind San Diego, and Miller Brewing Company with free tours and free samples after the tour!

New Top 5:
5-MF; 4-X-Flight; 3-Hulk; 2-Kraken; 1-Raging Bull
Hershey PA / Hersheypark:
1) Chocolate World
2) Hershey Bears hockey (IF the Bears are in the playoffs or during Hersheypark in the Darkā¦ else hockey season and park season do not overlap)... this year in the historic Hersheypark Arena, next year in the new Giant Center.
3) Hershey Wildcat's Soccer... in the Hersheypark Stadium
4) Gettysburg battlefield (30-40 miles south west)
Personally, I prefer options 2 and 4 myself.

Harold's Chicken (even Chitown may not know about that one )
Everyone here that goes on and on about Knott's Chicken needs to get to Harold's and see how it's done.
Jeremy - You ever been to Howard's on the west side? Gives Harold's a run for its money.
Chitown - Have you checked out that show at the Museum yet? My roommate DJ's for the curator, and it's supposed to be really good. I'm sitting on tickets, but have been too busy to make it down there. Maybe this weekend.
Great sights in other cities:
Pittsburgh: Blasting through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Grandma's House.
Atlanta: Beautiful girls all over. The Underground is pretty cool, and I like hanging out in the Olympic Park. More beautiful girls..

Chitown: I hadnt heard about the "hip hop" archive (though I'm not sure of the "science" or "industry" tie in). How long is that lasting and is it a real exhibt or just an OmniMax show?
chris: Being a Southsider, you know I dont mess around with the west side (they CRAZY :)). Seriously though, when I dated a girl from the west side, I think she mentioned Howard's *once*. But what she *did* rave about all the time was Uncle Remus...we never went there though. Since I always drove (and most times paid) we usually went to southside places (hey they were closer to my house and other "activies"....)

--who's comments about NYC should be taken with a grain of salt as he's always had an irrational hatred of the city...
SFGAdv, No Question! - There's some major choices, you could visit the best city in the world, NYC, or you could drive down and visit the second best city, Philadelphia. Or if it's a hot day you can visit the Jersey shore...you just can't beat it.

I've never been to NYC but when I do go, it's going to have to be REALLY impressive to beat the fun I had in Chicago last summer.
I think the reason people think NYC is better is that like 1 in 20 U.S. citizens lives there or in its 'burbs. And you gotta stand up for your own city. My city, Columbus, OH, is pretty darn nice but no one knows 'cause no one ever comes here. I'd say the same is probably true about, say, Wichita or Boise or Pensacola.
At any rate, I'll take the Second City over L.A., San Diego, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Orlando, Houston, Kansas City or any of the other dozen major cities I've been to.... (however, I can't decide whether I like it better than Vegas).

jeremy - Never been to Uncle Remus. I had a roommate that grew up on Harold's, and we used to head south every Sunday for dinner. Howard's was a late night ritual we got into on Fridays and Saturdays before going home from the clubs.
Here's some info on the MSI Hip Hop exhibit: http://www.msichicago.org/temp_exhibit/hiphop/hp_index.html
