Newspaper says Universal Studios Japan attendance down 30%

Universal Studios Japan Inc, a movie theme park affiliated with Vivendi Universal SA, will likely attract 30 percent fewer visitors in its second year of operation, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported. The park has suffered from negative publicity following bad water and food incidents.

I can't say I'm surprised. They saw other parks getting into Japan and someone in marketing convinced a lot of other people to go along with the idea of a Japanese park.

Sort of like when airlines drastically cut their fares to match those of low-cose competitors. The competition isn't taking away market share, they're just expanding the market. It ends up hurting them.
