It’s new. Of course the trees and shrubs are not fully grown in yet. And it’s for kids ages 3-9.
what were peoples expectations???

Parks and wreck-ed.
Universal Studios’ $550 million children’s theme park in Texas has been eviscerated online with haters analogizing the aesthetic attraction to a “maximum security prison.”
Regardless of the intended age range it looks low effort. Like they had their budget pulled and were on the hook to deliver something.
I think that there is a real danger when a brand builds something new that their properties that are half a century old set the expectation for what something new should be like immediately.
We have seen this time and time again, whether it be Disney adding a second gate in Paris (or a first gate in Shanghai or Hong Kong) - there seems to be little accommodation from visitors that something new won't look like something old on day one. The new Legolands are a bit like that vs. Windsor, Billund etc - they do look clinical in comparison.
Even with them trying to set expectation that it's a kids park and the like, the pricing is around 1.5x what a visit to a Six Flags park would be, for example.
Nothing to see here. Move along.
