New Talon photos highlight immelmann and inclined loop

Posted | Contributed by Joel Styer

January 23, 2001 photos of Talon construction show much of the ride completed with only two major track elements left to build. This is the best set of photos so far in the series and show just how tight of a ride this will be. 35 new photos.

First, thanks everyone for the great comments on the photos. I'll answer a few issues:

In describing the elements, I used the terms that Dorney Park uses to keep the names consistant. In order, they are listed as Outside Loop, Zero-G-Roll, Immelmann, Inclined Spiral, S-Curve, Corkscrew Spin, and a Spiral.

Yes, the leg chopper effect is going to be incredible. I avoided that term on the web page because non-coaster people might take it the wrong way. This occurs at several places during the ride.

The snow depth was about 5 inches. The clearance at the bottom of the loop is about 8-9 feet max.

The more I see Talon, the more respect I have for the layout. I don't think it will be like any other to date and will have it's own unique ride experience.

have fun,

Wow! Ithis thing is coming together nicely. I can't wait to ride it. Maybe I'll be using my Dorney Pass more this year. I can't wait for the ERT at Coaster Madness. I bet Talon will pull some great G's around those tight turns.

To think about it when everyone found out Talon was going to have only 4 inversons everyone was thinking Great Bear. BOY! Were we wrong!!!!

Not Too Shabby For A Summer
Man am I lucky that I go to Dorney every year. This ride will be my first coaster I ride during my trip. The leg chopper effect might scare me because it will be a new experience to me, but I WILL RIDE THIS no matter what!

Talon is going to rock, roll, and take its toll!
I don't think there is going to be a Coaster Madness this year because of the ACE convention being at Dorney Park about the same time.

Painting rails on B&M's is a fairly recent phenomenon that began in the last few years. As any Raptor fan will tell you, the rust dripping off the rails in rainy weather will stain your clothes. I've noticed that some of the rides, like Batman at SFO, do have painted rails but it's a grey primer color.

I happened to drive past the park for my first time in about three weeks today. OH MY GOD! I thought the pictures were incredible, wait till you see the ride in first person. First off, it is much more compact than the photographs give it credit for. This coaster will blow each and every rider away, no doubt. If you look at the elements, they don't seem too overdone, a problem which plagued inverts like Alpengiest. They are all relatively small, which will do wonders as far as g's go. Also, I think that inclined spiral looks like it might just be the most important part of the ride. You will feel this element more than anything else, no lie, the thing is tiny. As for the track on this coaster, I thought the middle seemed to look like a dead spot, but as the pictures show, HELL NO! There is not one piece of straight track once you hit that lift, you will feel laterals every inch of the way on this ride.
As a little construction update, since the photographs have been taken, the track has now reached the spot where the corkscrew will go. Also, supports have been erected next to the break run, where the liitle dip will be. A comment about the area right before the corkscrew, make sure you pick the right hand side of the coaster when loading, I swear you will find yourself about three feet from the ground. It is absolutely incredible.
I love Dorney Park, and realized that I would cherish Talon no matter how it was, but when it was first announced I did have a slight doubt. Since then, I have watched this metallic monster be erected and assembled. I have built a large amount of respect for this coaster, and have no doubts in my mind now. I can easily say that Talon will be the finest inverted coaster to date. The layout is original, fast pace, and absolutely wicked. Dorney has just thrusted itself into the upper echelon for next season. The coaster has also enhanced the overall horizon and atmosphere at the park. In conclusion, thank you Dorney, thank you John Albino, thank you Cedarfair, THANK YOU TALON!!!!!!!

Cedarfair is good
Awesome pictures...I'm looking foreward to Dorney this summer. I have never been there, but since I have my CP season pass, and Dorney's getting the Talon, I have good reason to leave Ohio. Hmmm, looks as if the only thing missing from this B&M is a Cobra Roll (which would give it 6 inversions ala Raptor)...but I'm thankful they left that one close by in Sandusky. :-)
1st ever post on CoasterBuzz!!!
My god, the elements on this coaster look wicked. Talon is definitely going to be a hit with the coaster rider.

A must ride for 2001!

Cedar Point is above all.
Now Valleyfair needs to get an inverted rollercoaster. Combine Raptor at Cedar Point with Talon - and you have the ultimate inverted rollercoaster!! Expect something new to rise at Cedar Point and Valleyfair in 2002...
M. Force, yeah right I agree!! You would get Top Gun: The Jet Coaster LOL!!!!
Just kidding...that would be more of a Montu/Talon cross...but only because of the batwing as opposed to the cobra roll/
