new rct2 installiation problem, please help!

got the game yesterday, had some great fun with it. due to the lack of space, i decided to install the compact version, this worked fine.

later on, i deleted some stuff and had enough space for the typical installiation. i went to uninstall the game, it seemed to go funny. when the blue bar came up, it went straight to 100% in about half a second and said it was uninstalled.

when i went to install the game again, the install icon was still replaced with the play rct2 icon. weird! i clicked on it and it said that the CD was not in the drive which it was (the cd drive still works, i checked that). so, i tried to run the game off the cd, this time it said that it couldnt launch the game, no reason given.

by now, i was very annoyed, so i decided to use norton uninstall to try to uninstall it seeing as all the files were still on my computer. did that, all the files vanished and it appeared to be uninstalled. however, when i put the cd in again to reinstall, it still had the play rct2 icon!

now, i cant reinstall the game as there is no icon to install, and if i run setup.exe it tries to uninstall. and i cant play the game as it either thinks the cd isnt in the drive or there is a file missing so it cant run it! any ideas? please help!

i have just deleted all registry info and any other related files, but yet it still thinks the game is installed, someone please help!

Contact tech support... we didn't write the game and I doubt many of us have uninstalled it! ;)

I had the same problem when uninstalling the german version of the game because of the bad translation. Everytime i tried to install the game again after deinstalling it, a messagebox came up asking if it's ok to delete the game.

There are a number of entries in the registry that you have to delete to install it again. Can't remember where and which. But try searching for "coaster" in the registry-editor and delete everything RCT2-related. But don't mess up with RCT-entries if you have RCT installed too.

Then restart the computer and try installing the game again ... worked for me.

i cant believe it, a huge multi-national company with excellent customer support!

after my uninstall/install problem with rct2 yesterday, i emailed infogrames late last night and had a response by 11am today with a clear guide of how to get the game to install again. it had something to do with installshield files if anyone wanted to know.

well done infogrames!

Laurence, could you please post the e-mail you received from Infogrames? It would be very helpful (and useful) if you could do so. THANKS!

here you go:

"Hi,

You probably still have the install shield information on your hard drive.
To remove this please do the following.

Double click MY COMPUTER C:\ drive PROGRAM FILES
You will now need to ensure that you can see all hidden files and folders.
To do this :-

Windows XP - click TOOLS FOLDER OPTIONS VIEW TAB here you will see a
checkbox called 'show all hidden files and folders' put a check in it.

Windows 98/me - click VIEW FOLDER OPTIONS VIEW TAB here you will see a
checkbox called 'show all hidden files and folders' put a check in it.

In the program files folder you will now see a folder called Installshield
Installation Information. Open this folder.

Create a new folder in here and call it backup.

Now cut all the other folders in the Installshield Installation Information
folder and paste them into the new backup folder.

Once this has been done you should be able to install the game again.

Now cut all the folder out of the new backup folder and paste them back into
the Installshield Installation Information answering NO to overwriting any
files."

hope that helps!
