1st phase is suppose to be go-karts, 2nd phase water slides... Thought it was interesting, SFA started out as a water park. I don't think this particular park will go much further than a water park. Here is an article about it.
Wow this sounds like a pretty good idea for Maryland and like Coasterguts said we'll have to keep an eye on this project over the coming years because after all SFA started out this way and in just a few years time this new park could prove to be a major competitor for SFA.
Maybe we'll see SFA finally get some big name rides in the coming years as a result of this new park coming to the area and we'll have yet another great park in the area to visit.
this does sound pretty cool, but batwing fan i wouldnt get too optimistic about this park growing much. yes back in its day SFA was a mere waterpark....but there are still two major factors. first off, SFA is pratically at the heart of the DC Metro Area, so its accesible to quite possibly millions of people. the park in Frederick is kinda out there, and is basically a moved Putt Putt. second thing is, even until 1998, Adventure World was a pretty small park, not offering a whole lot. for this new park in Frederick to actually be a competitor in a FEW years, would take MONEY....and lots of it;) so dont get your hopes up....maybe in 10 years or so....guess we shall see :)
Tim (who is chuckling at the thought of SFOM...Six Flags Over Maryland, haha...anyways, dont know where that came from)

BTW: I catagorically disagree with the assertion that SFA does not ALREADY have big name rides. As I see it, Intamin Hypers are the current "Holy Grail" of rides and (gasp) SFA actually has one!

I agree, Jeremy. I really don't get how *anyone* could gripe about the coaster collection at SFA, as the only coaster there that sucks is the SLC.
Boo hoo, they don't have a B&M...
chris - Who likes the Vekoma Flyers.
What I was saying is that perhaps in maybe 10 years time or more this new park up in Fredrick could possibly grow into a decent sized competitor for SFA,I didn't say that it was going to happen over night because that is realisitcly an unlogical assumption.
205 acres is quite a lot of land to work with,SFA only uses 135 acres curently for park operations and as we all know is fairly large.
We'll all just have to sit tight & see just where the development of this new park goes and if it's popularity will promote future expansion possibilities, who knows the new park may not be all that good & may very well prove a failure in the competitive mid-atlantic market, but then again it may be a huge success, and if it is then SFA may just become a bit worried about losing attendance to the new park.
You know... I don't think Batwing Fan SFA mentioned anything about wanting a B&M Floorless coming to SFA. I believe he expressed his opinion about a big name ride coming to SFA with a little more competition. No reason to flame him for expressing his desire to see a even bigger name RIDE come to his home park. I think all of us want that for our own home parks.

Nobody's flaming him, its just that the problem is he acts like the park doesn't have any big name rides already. An Intamin hyper is about as big name as it gets, not to mention a Vekoma flyer, a great GCI, an excellent invertigo, one of the best flumes in the world outside of Disney/Universal....the list goes on and on.

That proposal is little more than an FEC ("family entertainment center," as the industry calls it) and will never be more than that without help. To open a facility like that and grow it into something bigger would require loads of capital, and I don't think such a facility could generate it. Outside investors would be necessary.

And Batwing Fan SFA repeatedly refers to SFA as a 'neglected' park, and has cried for a B&M just as many times.
Again, Boo-Hoo.

An argument I hear countless times from many people about their own home parks and I don't see anyone complaining about other people saying the same thing.
Actually, BFSFA gets called out for it because of his/her habit of belly-aching in threads that have nothing to do with SFA, thus becoming more 'notorious.'
