New Mexico's new super coaster's name is...CORNY

ALBUQUERQUE -Mayor Martin Chavez, along with Linda and Gary Hays, owners of Cliff's Amusement Park, announced today during a contract signing ceremony, that Cliff's will build New Mexico's first major custom roller coaster which will be called The New Mexico Rattler. According to Linda Hays, "The New Mexico Rattler, two million dollar, out-and-back twister style coaster is scheduled to open Friday, June 21, 2002.That's right, two weeks after the naming contest ended they have finally picked the name, "New Mexico Rattler."

It sounds kinda weird. It has no ring to it at all, IMO. No matter, the name of the ride doesn't affect the quality.

Original, seeing that the Rattler and Timber Rattler already exsist, now they decide to call theirs the "New Mexico Rattler"

I think it makes perfect sense! Wooden coaster make a "rattling" sound, there are lots of rattlesnakes in NM. I'm sure it will be affectionately referred to as "The Rattler" anyway...most people will drop the "NM" part. Besides...who cares what the name is anyway...THEY GET A NEW WOODIE!!

That's what I'm talking about, nobody is going to say New Mexico Rattler. They'll just say The Rattler, and we're like "which one?" I really like the name Rattler, but don't want it duplicated, and seeing them add New Mexico to the front makes the name sound too long, it's not catchy either.

Quicksilver is a commonly used name.

I remember sending in the name for the Dollywood Waterpark...I think my "Tennessee Tapwater Valley" was alot better name for the waterpark, in Tennessee, in a valley. Long name, but it has a nice ring to it. Not much longer than Hurricane Harbour or Splash City.

I think they chose the name "Dolly's Splash Country" still a long one, and a sucky name IMO.

If you didn't submit a name for it, don't complain about it...

The name is long, but I'm sure that soon enough, it will be referred to as simply "Rattler"

But the best part is that I might get to ride it next month, on a chance trip to New Mexico. I'm certainly hoping for it... My only CCI experience so far has been a good one (ghostrider!)

Cornball Express is a great name IMO, it's original. I gotta say that name is insanely lame. How many entries did they get? I thought to myself, hmmm... well if they're going to get a bunch of submissions and they're going to choose the best name, then it's going to be a good name. The winner is probably some 7-year-old who was playing stupid and sent it in for kicks.

As Mamoosh said, its a new wooden roller coaster, not to mention a wooden coaster in a state where most of the people have probably never ridden a real coaster before (no offense to the park's Galaxi).

Call it whatever you want, aside from Indiana Beach's Lost Coaster, it is the only new woodie in the U.S. this year. And a pretty fine looking one, too!

I don't see any problem with the name. As long as it doesn't have Superman or Batman in the title it's already one up over most as far as originality goes.
