New Kennywood pictures show slow but steady progress

Construction on Phantom's Revenge continues, it is starting to look a lot like a roller coaster. However, it doesn't appear that they will make opening day. Follow the link in the center of the page to get to the new pictures.

Heh, that's funny. I JUST contributed a news item for MY picture update ;)

I swung by Kennywood yesterday and ended up meeting Steve and his wife. Not surprisingly, our pictures are rather similar, although we each have a few views the other missed.

The ride path is starting to come together, although without views from INSIDE the park (ie by Turtle) it's still somewhat difficult to visualize the whole layout.

Hopefully then, you won't mind if I don't post your news item. :)

Not at all.

I spent some time comparing "artist's renderings" to the pictures we got yesterday. Based on that, here's what I think we saw yesterday (actually some of this is pretty obvious):

o The supports for the turnaround at the bottom of the 2nd hill, and the 3rd hill, are going in.

o The footers for the final approach to the station are in.

o The footers for the final turnaround/helix before the approach to the station, are still under construction.

Since we weren't in the park, can't say much for the trench/tunnel, or the section over by the Turtle.

Thanks for the updates! BTW--what's going on with the proposed double-up?? Is it still in the design? Haven't seen anything on it lately.

An unnerving stillness in the woods of southern Indiana beckons for you on May 11th.....

Well, according to Kenny Wood Park Unlimited, the RUMOR states that it just wont happen. Also, they need to remove yet another portion of the Thunderbolt in order to get the ride done.

But... this isn't official yet.
