New Kennywood construction pictures show Phantom's crazy pull-out

Posted | Contributed by GregLeg

On Monday morning, 4/2, I was able to take a construction site tour of Kennywood to check out the progress on the new Phantom's Revenge. Many thanks go to Mary Lou Rosemeyer, Kennywood's Publicity Director.

The ride still has a lot of work to go, but is looking very good. The rest of the park is in various stages of preparation for the Preview Day, a mere two weeks away. Thunderbolt is also a major center of activity as it gets put back together.

Show me the photos!.

I'm telling you guys:

This ride could EASILY be the best of 2001.

Don't touch the watch.
I agree. None of us can know how good or not it will be until we have ridden it. (Case in point, I didn't think Raven looked too great in pictures. Then I rode it! :) )

I tend to think that PR might just be the biggest surprise for 2001. I can't wait!

Maybe this ride will surprise some of the skeptics after all. I don't think it'll beat Nitro, but it'll definitely be better than the original Phantom.
Will this be done in time for opening day?

"Does anyone know what type of dog spot is?
A Cedar Pointer!"
Elroy: no.
Looks good. That pullout into the turn looks intense and wild. Should be great. I also finally got to see the shot I was looking for: the transition from Arrow to Morgan track. That'll be kind of neat for us as enthusiasts when we ride over the transition. Sort of a journey from old to new. I'm not sure if I'll get out to Kennywood this year. I only rode SP 5 times, all in the same day in early 1992, so even the first and second drops will be somewhat new to me again.

I can't remember a year when so many coasters opened up so late. I hope it's not a trend.
I don't think mid-May (as they're projecting) is "so late," myself.

First off great pics, Greg. My school's day at K-wood is the 18th. I hope it's done by then.
I guess the March/April openings in my neck of the woods are making me think that things are opening late. Still I'm not sure what's taking them so long to finish this particular coaster. They've had since the close of the 2000 season to work on it, although it's probably hard to work on the hillside and also deal with The Thunderbolt.
The hillside, the fact that they had to remove the old ride first, running into utility lines that weren't on any existing maps (this is an OLD area of Pittsburgh)...

This hasn't been an easy project for the parties involved. It'll be worth it, though.

I like how the Morgan tracks blend really good with Arrow's track on the 2nd drop. I'm going to try to make it this year and check this big boy out.:)

Can you take me higher? (CREED)
the layout of this scream machine looks great, the only thing that i dont like is how morgan and arrow track are not very consistant with their curves. Looks like it may be a little rough, but who knows, id still love to ride it!
