New Joker roller coaster closes during its debut at Six Flags Great Adventure

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Several rides after the unveiling of Six Flags Great Adventure's newest roller coaster on Thursday, the ride was shut down for the day. The maintenance team worked to fix a car on The Joker, the park's new 4D, free-fly coaster, for several hours after two riders got stuck. But, shortly before 3:30 p.m., officials decided to close The Joker down for the day.

This seems really odd considering that this ride is a clone of the Batman ride that opened at Six Flags Fiesta Texas last year. Or maybe that one breaks down all the time too?

The one day I was at SFFT, it ran pretty much constantly.

I was thinking the same thing.

There is no such thing as a terrible Coaster just ones that haven't been taken care of

Seems like it's a little tricky in getting the cars to flip with enough resistance so they don't make people ill, but "flippy enough" to make it fun...and then have the cars orient properly in the station.

Of course, then you have to add in the fact that NJ is plain cursed.... ;~P

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

I drive a GMC Canyon. It runs fine. My buddy had one a few years ago and it was nothing but trouble.

I've never been on one of these, but I can tell you right now the forced flip is not what these rides should be doing. Ugh. It's so... forced or something.

Having ridden it on Friday, I cannot envision how the seats could possibly have been nearly inverted at the end of the ride. The dampeners must have been set ridiculously loose the previous day.

Well, something was loose, alright. I was there for the press preview and scheduled to do a POV/RPOV video early afternoon but that never happened. I and a number of other people similarly situated waited around in the blistering heat for close to 3 hours watching wrench-wielding mechanics try to tighten things up and otherwise fix the problem before being told that The Joker would be down for the remainder of the day. Unfortunate timing, as it ended up being a waste of a day, but what can you do?

Write some funny headlines?

"Joker Ride Plays Jinx on Local Six Flags"

"New Joker Ride is Truly a Joke"

Poor Great Adventure. It seems like they always have trouble opening their new rides.

They do it on purpose to get you to come back.

I know you're mocking me, and I'd like to say that they probably didn't try to open it at the start of the season for that reason, but they have no control over breakdowns.
