New Intamin Prototype?

BullGuy's avatar

I was browsing through rcdb, and came across a new Intamin ride, set for 2003 at Särkänniemi Amusement Park. The name of the ride is Halfpipe, and from that name one would assume that it's an Impulse. It is indeed an LIM Shuttle, but the train descriptions don't fit. It also doesn't say anything about it being inverted.

Here's the link.

Särkänniemi Amusement Park is the park that gave us Tornado, Intamin's first full circuit inverter. Will this be another first from Särkänniemi amd Intamin...?

It's been discussed many times, do a search.

I'm not so sure this has been discussed many times, man.

Bullguy: It seems to be Intamin's version of the Vekoma Hammerhead Stall coaster. (Vekoma's one was set to originally open in 1999 or 2000, no? When is one going to finally work?)

Actually it has been disscussed. Here are a few topics on the subject (just on the first page of my search):

Whoops! Did we forget about Volcano so soon? Remember, it opened in '98. What about Tornado at Parque de Atracciones in Spain? It opened in '99.

Tornado at Särkänniemi opened in 2001.. so it was the 3rd of the bunch. Sorry, but that was one nit I *had* to pick. ;)

Back on topic.. I completely agree with Peabody in saying it sounds exactly like a Vekoma Hammerhead Stall. I'll see if I can find a pic around here somewhere..

Edit- I just noticed that rcdb said that this was Intamin, and the Hammerhead Stall is a Vekoma creation.. Freaky.

Sorry, I should've clarified myself, I meant full-circuit- including a lift hill. In any case, I was still wrong, as Tornado at Parque de Atracciones was the first -although they appear to be clones.

Well... I'll let it go this time! (that is probably the best excuse too)
