New Hard Rock Park owners ditch the name

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Say goodbye to Hard Rock Park - the name, at least. The year-old theme park will have a new name when it opens by Memorial Day under new ownership, officials said Thursday. FPI MB Entertainment, which bought the $400 million park out of bankruptcy for $25 million, said a new name would be announced within a week.

Goodwin had no one to sue until the new owners were handed the keys by the bankruptcy court. He did do that work, but his timing makes him 'greedy' at this stage of the game. Reguardless of how the park performed, or how poor the ride selection was, lack of water attractions, etc, it was his layout per say.

Not everything makes sense in this business, but some people make money by accident.

At $4/gal., Myrtle is deserted like last year

Was it really that bad? It's not that far from several pretty good-sized cities...

I'm sorry but there is no way I'm going back to this Park... Maybe if the Dark Ride Stays.. but now. Hell No! I can't see this Park Really Pulling Anyone off the beach.. I would take Swamp Fox over anything In that Park.. yes Even Zep Coaster!

No I don't have a kid, but I still want to ride!

Yes it was over $4 for gas last summer briefly.

I think the new owners should look into buying some of these used rides from Cyprus Gardens and other recently liquidated places. I don't know exactly how much room they have but they could seriously upgrade their coaster inventory with The Starliner or Triple Hurricane.

That Raptor clone from Japan may also become available.

The owners got the park for pennies on the dollar. They should continue being frugal with their ride purchases. We are the only ones who would know the rides aren't new.

I wasn't doubting the gas price part; I was wondering whether last summer was that brutal for MB.

Freestyle Music Park is being listed on one of the other hrp blogs as the new name...seems the domain was purchased a couple of days ago.

Seems like a strange name to me.

How about "Hard Times Park" ???????

It would be cheaper to change the sign, wouldn't it?

Freestyle Music Park? OH MY GOD!..... Does that suck.

Even if the "Freestyle Music Park" thing isn't true, we suddenly see the potential importance of something as recognizable and familiar as the Hard Rock name.

It could be worse. If Cedar Fair bought it, we'd all be talking about Popular Music Park 1 . . .

Sheesh. So here's the press release. It is going to be called Freestyle Music Park.

"Choosing 'Freestyle Music' as the name of the Park is a strategic move that we see as a key benefit for the long-term success of the project while broadening its appeal to an infinitely larger number of guests," said Steve Baker, president of FPI MBE. "With Freestyle Music Park, we own the name, leaving us unencumbered by one specific brand. This will allow us, from a partnership perspective, to explore other opportunities and collaborate with national and international brands that will strengthen and extend the 'Freestyle' brand in Myrtle Beach and throughout the rest of the world."

Sorry to anyone who missed the magic of HRP last season. Not going to try to make a claim on whether the new park will be better or worse, but it's certainly not going to be the same experience. :(

Many of the rides, restaurants and areas throughout the Park are being re-themed to better fit into the vision of Freestyle Music Park. Castings are also underway for talent to star in Freestyle Music Park's musical and live stage show acts, which are currently in development and will be announced at a later date.

Maybe we should give the new name a chance. If the rest of the park is run correctly, it may not be such a negative in the end. After all, not a lot of people were enamored with the name "Epcot" at first. If memory serves me, that park turned out rather well.

Why does this sound like a Japanese park with a poorly translated name? Hmm...

Who handles marketing for these guys (and for Cedar Fair)? I mean, really... I bet just 10 monkeys sitting at 10 typewriters could come up with a better name. Although it would probably be Feces Toss Park.

Should have called it ParkHawkinator!

Doesn't Six Flags already have a TonyHawkinator ride? ;)

Terrible, just terrible. Why even bother with the freestyle part? They must have had software that randomly chose words to sit in front of "Music Park."

I can't get this vision out of my head.

(Ricky Gervais as David Brent on Britain's The Office... "Rock.") :)

Sure, but that also has the "Disney" name attached to it. Disney could have named it "Waste of Time & Money Park" and people would have showed up.

That's pretty stupid for a park name. Where's the creativity? Why don't these parks listen to the creative people working for them? I'm absolutely positive that there is a better name for the park than Freestyle Music Park. I could come up with at least 20 off the top of my head.

This would have been some better names:

Recession-Land

Coasters-4-Sale

Cartmanland
