Red, yellow and blue colors are a dead giveaway to the Superman theme of Six Flags Great America's new flyer, as the general public learns what enthusiasts have known for months.

I thought that the ride at Great America was going to be "The same, but different"

DWeaver, regarding your stand on how rediculous it would be to see themed McDonalds- you should take a look at some of the ones we have in south florida. There's a 50's diner themed mcdonalds, theres a hollywood themed mcdonalds, and I believe there is a hotrods/derby themed mcdonalds. They have a few different themed mcdonalds here.

I'd like to see Six Flags clone the heck out of the themed areas they do correctly, like Crackaxle Canyon in both SFA and SFNE, but instead what is cloned is the stuff that is obviously themed subpar -cough...SHEETMETAL...cough- compared with some of their better stuff. Disney clones its rides- but they at least clone the things that are done well instead of lands done cheaply like Bountiful Valley Farm or the carny section of Dinoland. That is the difference between six flags and disney cloning.

Ideally there would be no cloning at amusement parks but when consolidation forces the mom and pop theme parks into the hands of large theme park empires the regionalization is lost- and parks which once were great parks reflective of the local culture like Six Flags over Georgia or Six Flags over Mid America have instead been made into mirror images of parks hundreds of miles away.

I suspect that majority of visitors to the Six Flags parks are not enthusiasts which like many of us visit park to park every year. They go with thier families and friends as weekend or day vacation fun. They could care less about a near or exact copy of a coaster in another park. They enjoy the tie ins to familiar themes and the excitment they generate. It sounds like it's theme will be correct for the type of coaster it is. How they will finalize the theme in the area it's located in the park is still a mystery and while I think it's important, in the bigger picture for most people it won't be.
By the way, is anyone disappointed that they took out the 7 inversion Arrow coaster? I mean thank God they didn't get rid of the Whizzer! But what about it, what is better a flyer clone, or something a tad bit more original?
Answer: A flying clone.

2 superheroes in Gurnee next season? Oh the humanity. :)

S:UF will be great clone or not! I probably will still prefer SW to it, but a flyer is a flyer! I wanna ride it so bad! :-)
A clone ok but if they could have a clone and add a lttle bit more to the ride to make at least abit diffent that would be something better than it being a complete clone.
I was at the Ace no coaster con and I asked the pr rep the SFOG clone question. She said that basically it would be a clone except for a few hight differences and other small changes

I doubt the homey looking "New Orleans" theming will change. I dont see SFGA putting that much effort into it. The queing may be themed like Batman is. However with the announcement of their Mardi Gras festival taking place in New Orleans this summer I believe that is proof enough that we will be stuck with the grungy New Orleans that we all love!
