And as my father the banker said on that blog post some time ago, the FICO score is usually higher, so who cares what you think. :)

Be assured that every time you receive one of those "pre-approved" credit card offers in the mail, the card issuer checked your report beforehand. That's how they figure out what rate and amount of credit to offer you.
Oh trust me.. I know.. Because of my notification (and the details of who is doing what on my report), I can almost do the Swami routine with the envelope to my head and guess who it is from.
Opt out.. Sheesh.. How about going the Opt in route.

That's not quite what he said. But regardless, I can't believe you just used the "My Dad said..." retort. ;)

It's a silly argument regardless, because at the end of the day, the only one that counts is the one from the agency a lender uses.

Right. Which most often than not is the FICO score, not the proprietary scores from the agencies. Here's an article on the topic that I think sums it up well.
An excerpt:
When you request a free credit report, each bureau will offer to calculate a credit score for $6.95. Experian and TransUnion use proprietary formulas; Equifax uses FICO scores. Pass up these offers because the information is not as comprehensive as you'll get elsewhere, and lenders are less likely to look at these scores.

Exactly! The most poignant link ever posted on these forums. :)
I'm too smart to click the link provided by Gator and endorsed by Gonch.
Cash, almost always, for me too, unless I am using my debt card for online purchases or travel expenses. I don't need a credit card. if I want something, I save up for it. I already own my own home, and own my own used vehicle. If I can't afford something, I don't need it.
I don't even know my credit score, but I'm sure it not perfect.

The key is to get a no fee credit card and pay the balance every month, its a win-win for you, you have the convenience of plastic and improve your credit score every month.
Using your card and paying it doesn't improve your score, per se.
Charging and paying it off doesn't hurt, but it's not boosting your score any more than not using it in the first place or running with a low percentage of the balance in use (<30%) would.
