New footers for Vertical Velocity poured at Marine World

Posted | Contributed by Brian Grapes

SFMW Online has posted its February 19, 2002 update, which includes photos from the construction at Six Flags Marine World. Footers have been poured to accommodate the altered Vertical Velocity and the park has started construction on a go-kart track.

It will be neat to see what V2 will look like now!

Well think of it this way if they are removing the two towers that they could use the old track pieces at another SF that is planing on building an impluse coaster. Just have Intamin not make the old pieces that come down from V2 at SFMW *** This post was edited by Alex Nagel on 2/19/2002. ***
Mamoosh.  The site says "new angle" not "new twist".  I think they chose the words very carefully.

At the top, it says "new angle," but if you scroll down some more, it says "new twist."
Wait, so where is the entrance plaza going to go? It looks like the track will extend past at least one or two of the ticket booths. Or... maybe the ride will zip above peoples' heads right as they enter! That would be sweet! Disneyland has the monorail overhead, and Marine World would have this monster!
My guess is that the back spike is being modified to include a twist, maybe two..... This would require them to lengthen the ride and make the angle upwards larger.
I don't think they will add a zero g roll on the track anywhere.. Think about it, how would your body take that zero g roll at close to 70 mph???

Theme parks will NEVER be the same! *** This post was edited by Chris Godsey on 2/19/2002. ***
Good point Chris. Also keep in mind that a "slanted" spike would no longer sway, so would probably need additional supports. It seems to me the most simple answer is the most likely. That being the height of both spikes will be lowered to 150ft, with a longer launch base and two twisted spikes.

Have you ever considered that maybe it's not the park that's the problem, but YOU?
Okay let's think about this...is this really a good idea for six flags???  They're already in debt and are probably spending a hefty chunk of change for modifying a fine ride that is already there and has only been open for a year!!!  This just makes no sense to me at all.

Is it the roar of Kumba or the kumba of Roar? Discuss!
It's not being done by choice Spacecase8310. I'm sure their first choice wouldn't be to rip up the ground in front of their entrance, re-work a perfectly placed ride next to Roar, and re-route customers around the new construction site until they can landscape a new route to the entrance.
That's an awful lot of trouble just for vanity.

Spacecase: It does make sense to do the modification if you believe that SFMW built over their 150ft height limit with V2. I don't think this is something they want to do, but are being forced to do to keep the ride. I can't see any other reason for the change.

They're obviously building a v2 in paralell which will be linked by a top hat inversion on the straight spikes ala Deja Vu less loop with top hat instead of a Cobra.

<Yawn!>

...ooOO Damn! It was nothing but a dream OOoo...

Maybe they are not changing the angle and are not putting an inline twist in maybe they are going to put another twist tower in like Wicked Twister
i think they are adding a twisted spike
If you'd all check the site again, it has been updated by saying that most of the back spike has been cut off.  I saw people on the outside of the LIM area working on it from the crane this morning, and then when I drove back again this afternoon the area from the bottom of the LIMs up had been cut off completely.  This pretty much proves that the back WON'T be twisted, otherwise they would've cut the whole damn thing off.

Well they might not be done yet, Coastration. Perhaps they are waiting until tomorrow?

Why doesn't anybody think that V2 could become a full circuit coaster? I'm looking at the pictures (specifically where the new footers are) and they look like perfect spots for more coaster track and supports to be installed. I'm predicting that V2 will become a full-circuit coaster in 2002.

NO NEED FOR IT

I'm fascinated by Chris Godsey's comment.  I mean...he comes in here with all of this information about different parks, and this supposed new park, but shouldn't he of any people know that Intiman could easily perform a 70 mph inline twist?  I mean, all you have to do is stretch out the rate of rotation relative to the increased speed, and there you have it.  Perhaps it was an honest mistake, but it makes me wonder.

Idle hands were orient to her.
I think a 200 mph inline twist is possible if you keep the rate of rotation the same as a slower inline twist.  I would love to see an inline twist immedately after launch...like on a coaster I'm working on in No Limits.  Chris Godsey has come up against the same doubting thomases in another coaster related forum as well.  I guess only time will tell.
