New Experience on El Toro

Some feedback on what? This topic brings up nothing new or even worth discussing.

But it's ok to have 25 pages on the thread speculating on Cedar Points next ride?

HA! How true.

^ Still better than having 25 TOPICS discussing the new ride at CP...

Good to see I'm back on track in terms of agreeing with DWeaver, although Dante also worded it very well...the PARK may get judged based on operations (and later on, maintenance)...but the RIDE, that gets judged based on the RIDE...

I will ride Toro sometime this year...my sister in NJ has a SFGAdv season pass that needs to get used.. ;)

And when you get to ride El Toro, you better give me a heads-up!

I don't think any of the people running the site have a problem with it. The weekly picture updates over on pointbuzz may actually indicate quite the opposite... *** Edited 6/21/2006 7:54:21 PM UTC by matt.***

In theory park experience and ride experience can be separated, but in practice I can't do it.

For instance, on my first trip to IoA I waited 90 minutes in the hot sun through a break down for Spidey. I rode it and thought it was pretty meh. Second time, I got on in about 15 minutes on a nice day. Thought it was the second coming of Jesus. I can't imagine that the effects or the ride itself actually changed much, but the way the park was going in general really influenced my opinion of the ride.

Another example, I was at oG this weekend for Goliath. I could tell that the air was better than Nitro's and the ride was generally better (except the first drop which really didn't do anything), but I was riding by myself and the operations were really not that good (often stacking the second train). It was hot, I was blacking out in the helix (which is bad) and they closed the queue 10 minutes before the park closed (and I missed my night ride). Analytically, I could say the ride was better but my experience of it was definitely worse. *** Edited 6/22/2006 6:41:39 PM UTC by ApolloAndy***

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

How true. It's easy to say the two can be separated but I can't do it 100%. You can put a coaster like the Voyage at SFMM and while it will be the same ride, I can't say I'd feel exactly the same way about it. It would mean that riding the Voyage would mean having to endure SFMM!
I have to admit to the same thing. In theory, one COULD be analytical enough to compare the ride elements and factor out the park, but let's be honest -- being in a good mood and having fun at the park definitely contributes to our attitude about the ride itself.

Perhaps I'm more analytical about it...can't say that I can do it 100%, but there have been rides I *loved* at parks I didn't care much for, and vice versa...

Two rides that illustrate my point: Boulderdash @ LC, first trip: Fell in love with the park, didn't really 8get* the hype surrounding the ride.

Texas Cyclone @ SFAW: Thought the ride was THE next-best thing to the Original, but the park disappointed, big-time...

That being said, there's alot of factors that go into how I view a particular park or ride, MOST of which I try to take into account, others which I probably don't even realize...

If El Toro had been built by almost any other US park other than a Six Flags park, I'd have ridden it by now. I've already been to ride Voyage 3 seperate times, and I live in California!

With El Toro, I'd travel thousands of miles to then be treated to 1 train operation, poor dispatches and unexplainable closures. El Toro may be the great, but no thanks.

Tatsu is a GREAT B&M, in a park making some good improvements this year. Still, I've only ridden it once, and probably won't ride it again until the off season. Sorry Shapiro, the parks look great, but the fundamentals still need lots of work! *** Edited 6/22/2006 3:22:53 PM UTC by DWeaver***

I'm guessing that's the reason why I have yet to go there. One train operation at Great Adventure? You have to be kidding me.

Funny, I traveled to Indiana and Kentucky to ride new wood coasters, but not Jackson NJ!
