New Expansion Pack for RCT3

I have found out there will be a new Expansion Pack being released somewhere in June. It will be named Cape Typhoon. Seems off the subject of RCT3 but I'm hoping it won't be a WW/TT. Here are some links to confirm I found on rctcompetition.com:

I wonder what it will include. Seems highly interesting, although I'm awaiting details now!

Let's just PLEASE hope it address and fixes ALL problems with the current RCT, along with a good expansion worthy to bring the RCT a good name again.

Although patches will help bugs, it cannot help the game as a whole. An expansion pack can, if done right.

...it sounds like they will be concentrating on possibly a tropical theme among others with an emphasis on water rides, like building a full fledged waterpark (finally).

It's 19.99

uh oh

Those evil $20 games are always bad. But if it's an expansion for RCT3 maybe it'll be good.

Any one remember how much the Loopy Landscape/Corkscrew follies packs were? Those were great expansion packs.

I don't understand that reasoning. What's the difference between information downloaded for free or information copied from a CD that you paid for?

They may surprise us, but right now, I'd expect no more than a scenery add-on with some hidden bug fixes tossed in.

I guess it depends on how "modular" they made the game. Apparently RCT2 wasn't designed with adding new rides in mind (thus, the reskinned rides) I'm guessing it would be easier to do in RCT3, so we may be surprised.

Still in the end, I don't expect much more than just additional scenery (and related reskinned rides) - I mean there's next to no scenery included with the game. They had to have made more. In my mind they had tons of stuff laying around and the only decisions were as to which ones to include with the game and which to package as add-on material.

Too cynical? Maybe.

I became so cynical with this game I installed it and messed around with it for a little more than a week and not touched it since. Pretty bad for a sequel to a game that got me through a 14 hour plane trek.v Hopeully the additions in an expansion can make me want to play with it again. But I doubt it. I will not be buying the expansion until I hear what it does for the game from people that are not Atari or Frontier people. *** Edited 1/20/2005 7:46:30 PM UTC by dragonoffrost***

It depends on how bad they want to market the game
In addition to whatever else they have slated for the expansion, one would assume that the expansion would include ALL the update material (bug fixes, etc.) that was released already. Why not?

the $20 price tag might be an effort at an apology for not living up to the hype of the original game.

Cape Typhoon? Looks like Cape Tsunami wouldn't have been a hit ;)

I've heard from good sources that the expansion pack may include core game engine changes to increase performance. They will be doing a more extensive beta test and hopefully a lot more bug squashing... although there's still many to go around in the original.

Well thats a good sign, but they still have alot to make up for RCT1 & RCT2 feature they seemed to lack in RCT3

Beta begins in Spring. That's all I'm saying right now. :)

Wow, an expansion pack! I don't whether i should be happy or frightened. Maybe we should start a thread like: RCT3 Exp Pack: what could possible go wrong?
Let me start the first question. Will it require a further system upgrade?
just kidding. :)

Forget an expansion pak, I want a laptop that can survive 14 hours of gaming (it must weigh a ton!) :)

Hmmm... expansion pack.

That means I'd have to actually install the RCT3 I got for Christmas...

Hi

Extra batteries? Naw, just pick an airline with an in-seat power adapter... (One of the reasons I still pick USAirways when possible -- all their Airbus jets have power ports in every seat)

I sincerely hope that the Expansion Pack doesn't contain fixes that aren't readily available through the update function. I spent $35 expecting a functional game the first time around--they'd have to be morons to force people to shell out another $20 to get the game to work the way it should have all along.
You'd rather it not include the updates? That would make no sense whatsoever.

The update wouldn't be the ONLY thing in the expansion pack, but you'd want to make sure that you're using an "up-to-date" version of the game for the expansion pack. They'd be stupid NOT to include the fixes that are readily available.

The updates will be included as well as [hopefully] many many other fixes...

...but those "fixes" in the latest updates also seem to break something else. I hope this expansion pack really just brings the game up to the level it should be.

...all I really ask are 3 major fixes...
1) Performance on the frame rate
2) Sound quality
3) New more challenging senarios & themes.

I'll shell out 20 bucks if it gives me all that...

Dannerman, read my post again. I said fixes that are not readily available through the update function. It would be stupid to not include the patches on the Expansion; however, it would also be moronic to make people pay for the Expansion pack if there are fixes/performance tweaks that people can't access without paying the additional $20.

People were bringing up rumors that performance fixes were going to be installed with the Expansion, and my point is that those updates should also be available for free on the upgrade site.
