New coaster to SW Orlando?

I read at ultimaterollercoaster.com about a clearing of land near Kraken for a new rollercoaster... Is this true?

Hmmm... I'll tell you, with the enormous increase in attendence that has come from Kraken, anything is possible.  I'll be sure to do some investigating of my own at the park this weekend and get back to you.

-----------------

A couple of years back (I think it was that long) Sea World of Orlando hired a gentleman who used to work for Cedar Point, in Park Operations.

He is well known in the bus. for his experience in ops. particularly pertaining to coasters.  You think he would have been hired, or taken the job for that matter, if they were only going to build 1 coaster?

Another coaster should definately attract more visitors to the park, not that they haven't been doing well the last few years.  With the exception of this year of course.  Even then I think they've been holding up ok.  It was fairly busy when I went two weeks ago on a Saturday.  I would love to see another coaster at Seaworld, Kraken really is a great ride.  Not better than Hulk imo, but definately a great ride.  :)

Rollercoaster lovers do it in the front seat!
And if we know Busch it will probally be a B&M(if steel).  I wouldn't jump to a coaster but i would think that they are getting somthing new for 2002, it could be a animal attraction.

Wood would most likely be much too noisy for Sea World. Isn't Kraken the B&M that they dampened the "roar" of?
Quite a few of the newer B&M's have had their "roar" subdued because of noise concerns.

If SW Orlando is to receive another coaster, I think there is an excellent chance it will be a B&M.

I would like to see a B&M speed coaster in Florida.
-----------------
I love B&M as much as the next crazy, but FL has B&Ms aplenty already.  I guess if we got a copy of Nitro, I'd definitely take it!  But I'd prefer an S:Ros-type...

Ya know... as much as I prefer wooden coasters over steel, I just can't picture a wooden coaster at SW.

Not exactly sure what kind would go good there. As someone said, central FL already has a good many B&M's, and Busch itself has one great B&M invert around two hours away (not to mention that little dueling monstrosity that IOA has a few minutes away).

To be honest, I can't quite say what type of coaster would go here. One thing that came to mind was a Setpoint type of coaster such as the "Swing Thing" (or what ever it is called) at Carowinds and the yet unnammed one at Hersheypark... that would keep with the "aquatic" theme of SW. However, they already have an excellent water/coater hybrid in Journey to Atlantis... not sure if that would be overkill of water or not.

***Alright everyone... As promised, I did a little investigating at the park today. I must say I was really surprised at how much I was able to find out...

First of all, I just want to remind all the readers out there that I have been at this site for a while now, and if you know me, you know I am not one who posts wild rumors. That said, I am not proffesing anything I was told to be true, but it is exactly what I was told...***

I started out with a ride on Kraken.  At the top I looked around and saw no land clearing anywhere near Kraken.  In fact I came to realize that there is no land near Kraken, it's all water.  On my next ride on Kraken, I sat in the last row, a) to get the best seat on the ride, but also b) to be able to speak to the ride op...  When I got to the front of the line, and the ride op finished his duties with the current train, I popped the question.
-"Hey, I heard Sea World might be getting a new coaster, is that true?"
Suddenly his eyes lit up like I had never expected, and without hesitation,
-"Yes, we are." He paused for a moment, "As well as a high tech ride sort of like spiderman... and another water ride."  He said.
-"Wow..." I was shocked.
-"They will be removing the Tropical Reef Building in the Key West Area, as well as some other buildings to make room for the new attractions.  They are likely to break ground in 2002 and be done with the first of the attractions within a year from then."  He did not say which attraction would come first.

I wasn't planning on asking him what kind of coaster it was going to be, or anything else for that matter, because I didn't think there was any way he would know.  But then he threw me the real kicker...

-"Do you know of the Busch Gardens park in Williamsburg Virginia?" He asked me.
-"Yes, I do..."  I was now expecting him to say Alpengeist, and it would be an iverted, but no.
-"And have you heard of a coaster called Apollos Chariot?"
-"Yeah, I have!"  I could not believe what I was hearing.
-"Well it'll be like that one" he said, "But obviosly not called Apollos Chariot".  He felt the need to add that in for some reason.  "Have you ever heard the term 'hypercoaster'" he asked me?
-"Sure" I said innocently.
-"That's what it will be... over 200 ft."

I thanked him very much and boarded the train, and as the train departed I said to myself, "Boy oh Boy, their not gonna believe this on Coasterbuzz!"

So that's my scoop, make of it what you want.

-----------------

That would be great if it is true(I'm not saying it's not). Sea World really almost has to start building rides to compete in the Orlando area.

Check out my all new coaster site!!

Sweet! I can't wait for November 2003!
That's awsome!  I figured a hyper would be popping up in Florida soon.  I am assuming if anything it will be a B&M based on the remark about AC and the fact that Bush parks have only built B&Ms in the past few years.
-----------------
I would think that BGT would get a B&M hyper before sea world, so maybe that means BGT will get one for 2002.
-----------------
For some reason something doesn't seem right about it.  I don't know how a ride op would know so much about coasters.  I have somebody in mind that I know works at Kraken, but he hasn't said anything to me.  I'm going up this weekend for a video shoot on Kraken, and I'll verify with him for everybody.

I happen to agree with CsTrFrK... that is a bit too detailed information for a ride op to know, let along giving out at random. Add onto that the fact that official statements from Busch recently stated that they will be cutting back on capital spending over the next few years and it even sheds more of a doubt on it.

If in fact a new attraction is being planned at SW I think I will wait until an official announcement is made.

I agree with you in full, so you can image how surprised I was to hear what I heard.  I was completely expecting him to say, "Oh, no they havn't told us anything yet".  CsTrFrK, If you would like I could describe to you what the ride op looks like so you could seek him out this weekend.  I was there on a Sunday, so that is most likely when he will be there.

Wait, didn't Six Flags sign a deal with B&M that stated only hypercoasters would be built at SF parks (lasts until 2008?). That's what I heard a while back, a year or so.
