New Coaster Game

Defiantly sucks. (An oldie but a goodie).

Roller Coaster Rampage actually has beautiful graphics and the visual detail on the trains is pretty great, too. I wish RCT was still in development and could incorporate graphics that looked half as good. A game that incorporated modeling on this level with the gameplay of RCT2...that would be amazing.

Looks like they're going to have a new editor that's a cross between Hyper Rails (which I happened to have liked) and RCT. I'm a lot more interested than I was with the odd scoring real-time thing.

I will admit, I loved building coasters in Hyper Rails. I was just thinking about breaking it out lately to mess around with it. I still miss the original RCT. Sure the graphics are better in newer versions. But I found them not as enjoyable.

Wow, Jeff. That looks pretty good. I don't see a Mac version though. Oh well...

I'll stick to RCT. I liked the scenerio editor in RCT2, I actually used that editor to turn Miami Beach's "South Beach" into an oversized Amusement Park.

The Fontenbleu Hilton had a B&M Dive Coaster in it, Star Island (Where Gloria Estefan lives) had six Roller Coasters on it. One of them was my Masterpiece, The Miami Scream Machine. An Intimin Hyper/Strato, it's first drop dove 57 stories below MS Estefan's House, then roared over Biscayne Bay on over 15,000 feet of track. The Peeps complained about the wait time, as they actually spent over a year in line (and anted up $20.00) to ride it!

Looks cool...lol, not sure about the trees waving around like the Whomping Willow from Potter, though.

I had that thought as well. Most coasters close in those kind of winds.

Most of the video is time lapsed, except when going through the loops, which is why the wind appears strong.

Wasn't quite sure where else to post this; I was thinking of getting my little nephew Thrillville (Off the rails...xbox) for Christmas. He's done the RCT thing (the first 2).

What do you guys/gals think of this game? And besides RCT and No Limits, are there any other options? From what I've read/seen, Thrillville looks just plain fun.

RCT3 with the HUGE abundance of add-on rides and scenery that the community has created is AMAZING.

I had the first Thrillville for my Wii, and it was pretty fun. It has some interesting game play apart from the ride building. I lost interest in it pretty quickly, but that's probably because I am getting old and cranky. lol

It's much less realistic and much more childish that the RCT games, but it's still kind of fun for a while.

Years ago I had PC game called Roller Coaster Factory. It was a cheap and not very well executed coaster simulator; the main thing it had going for it was the game allowed the player to ride his custom-built coaster in the first person, years before RCT3.

Did Roller Coaster Factory predate Disney's Coaster? That was the first coaster game I had for PC. 3.5" floppy...

Unfortunately, TWSS.

In case anyone's curious - I picked up Roller Coaster Rampage in a Steam sale the other day. It wasn't worth the $3 I paid for it.

Pros: Looks ok? Shiny and bloomy.
Cons: Everything else. Seriously, avoid the game like the plague. It wouldn't be worth your time even if it were free.

The premise of the game is basically real time, first-person roller coaster construction without physics. Imagine flying a plane towards flashy diamonds in the sky, but with terrible controls and a weird roller coaster skin. I stuck with it for a few levels but it's honestly hard for me to review because out of all the things wrong with it, it just isn't fun in any capacity. It's buggy, it crashes, and let me reiterate - the controls are among the worst I have ever had the displeasure of using. There is no story, there is no polish, there is no point. Do not buy this game.

Also - the RCT/Hyper Rails editor linked above did not make it into the final game.

If you're considering purchasing it, please save your money and watch some youtube reviews/playthroughs. It'll be more entertaining, mostly from watching other people play it, and quickly become baffled about how to play the game/why this game even exists. Here's a sample - slightly NSFW language at points, but it does a pretty good job of illustrating the experience, right up to getting so irritated with the game that you quit playing it after about 20 minutes. Just terrible. Avoid.

Well Thrillville it is for the kiddos. I'm tossing in a KNEX coaster of some kind...trying to fan the young enthusiast flames early. :)

Played a demo and yes, it was definitely more catoonish...but that's exactly what I'm going for. Thanks!

Vater, I believe RCF came out around 2000 - 2002.
