New Beech Bend Woodie

Just an update :

We were in the area, so drove off the interstate Saturday and stopped by Beech Bend to check out their new wooden coaster. All the concrete piers are in, and the western half of the structure is up. Enough of the rest is up that you can get an idea what it will look like when finished. And it looks pretty good, definitely worth a trip to Bowling Green. It won't be a Beast or Mean Streak, but may be a Cornball Express or Raven. You get the feeling you're seeing the Holiday World story reenacted : Obscure park installs classic woodie and greatly increases its visibility. Compared to the parks we usually visit, Beech Bend still looks like a carnival, but it has a new log flume and rodent coaster and if this new woodie attracts significant new crowds, it should continue to grow.

Beech Bend also has a deep history like Holiday World so it would be nice to see them kinda "reinvent" themselves and become a classic destination park with some great coasters.

I would HOPE that the new BB coaster is nothing even REMOTELY close to Mean Streak!!! That would.....just.....suck.

The Beast is in a class all in it's own and I don't think it could ever be *copied*, even if it's been influential to a few woodies.

I can't WAIT for this new GCI. :-P

Maybe I should just move to Kentucky or Indiana. :-)
