New Amusement Park For Long Island NY

In todays newsday there is an article that a major amusement park group has purchased the Grumman Airport land out in Riverhead, about 10 minutes from Splish Splash.

The Cunningham group will buy 130 acres on which will be a 250 room resort hotel, a convention center, and a large scale theme park starting with about 30 rides, what rides are is uncertian at the point.

For those of you who know the Island Riverhead is at the very end of the LIE about 2 hours from the city so traffic if not bad enough now would probally be 30x worse considering that the LIE is the only way there and back.

This would be really cool for me because I live 1 hour from where it will be.

It is expected to open June 2005, name of park and investors are unnamed, but Adventureland, the other SMALL park on the island must be s****** a brick right now.

I will keep you updated with information on this new theme park as well as pictures when construction begins.

This has been brought up again and again. The NIMBY folks always complain and always win. Furthermore, people are very concerned about the environment in that part of Long Island -- particularly the pine barrens, as it's our water supply. Recently, two large outdoor concerts that were scheduled to take place were cancelled due to environmental concern.

What do I Listen-To?

You never know maybe one time the park won't fall through and we will have a park close to us

Man if this really happens, it would be great cause I live in Brookyn, NY and we need a park here in the Big Apple. Coney Island is wack and Six Flags Great Adventure is a good park, but NYC needs something.

Holla at your boy!

This would be awesome! ... but like Chernabog said, the folks out there will probably never let this happen. :(

Long Island is too far from Cedar Point... Thank god for cheap Southwest Airline Flights.

A Long Island amusement park of some sort has been planned for years, but nothing ever comes of it. It would be nice, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

An article like this gets printed by Newsday every two years or so, so I won't hold my breath. However, there does seem to be a lot of optimisim about it -even from the pine barrens group. However, I agree about the traffic and the fact that during winter the hotel will be empty. But being on the island, I'd love to see it happen.
An amusement park on Long Island is almost as ellusive as those "news" items about Disney redeveloping Coney Island!
