Never played DDR

I'm not one for dancing (I'm awful at it) and I haven't tried DDR yet. I don't really see the big deal in it. The people I've met who have played are real jerks and pride themselves on being able to beat newbies.

What exactly is the big deal with DDR? Should I just try it? Is it because it's a fun challenge and it gives you a workout? I don't get it. Maybe the game's just not for me.

I also hate dancing. I think the game appeals more to people who already play video games than it does to dancers.

And yes, a lot of jerks play it. Just ignore them. Try it.

Bring a friend - then you wont have to worry about playing against some smart-aleck jerk.

Unless, of course, your friend is a smart-aleck jerk! :)

It's funny that some of you rag on the DDR crowd for being elietist when I read stuff daily like...

"I can't believe that guy wants to ride an arrow...what an idiot"

"That guy couldn't even tell the difference between an arrow sitdown and a vekoma sitdown? lolololol"

and etc...=)

You don't read stuff like that on this site. If you do, whoever posted it is probably getting flamed.

Nah, actually I agree with Tiger, that's one thing I hate about the enthusiast crowd, most people just want to be a know it all. I've seen posts like that on this site all the time, and it really pisses me off sometimes. I won't go on though because I don't wanna get off the topic.

Personally I haven't played any DDR game and I don't really know if I desire to. I dont really like dancing and I'm just not into those types of video games....I'm more into any sports games.

You can play it on a PlayStation system. We have a PS2. Yes, you can play alone, even on the arcade versions, or you can compete against someone else.

Basic game play: You have a pad (or two) that has left, right, up and down arrows. When a song is selected, arrows move up the screen. The trick is to step on the appropriate arrow when it reaches the top. The basic concept is to step on the appropriate arrow at the appropriate time. You score points (although I rarely pay attention to points). You can get a Perfect, Good, Almost and Boo depending on how accurate you are on hitting the arrows at the appropriate time.

It is EXCELLENT for burning calories (a great aerobic workout and specifically why I play) and for building coordination.

The game can also be played on the internet (someone might have the link) using your fingers on the arrow keys on your keyboard. That will give you a good idea how the game is played. The difference is you use your feet with the home and arcade versions. MUCH tougher to do than with fingers.

Thanks for the information CP Lady. I just found another thread on this so I'm going to delete my last post before I get in trouble ;) It sounds like a lot of fun. You can only walk to "nowhere" on a treadmill so long before you need a change.
