Between Nick Varney's hushed first visit and the celebratory press conference Jan. 21, Cypress Gardens was the subject of intensive and secretive discussions involving not just the park owners and Merlin representatives but also Polk County tourism officials and government leaders. Today, the county commission is expected to approve a package of incentives totaling up to $5 million over 10 years for the company to transform the property into Legoland Florida.

Now if Merlin would only take a look at another failed park, about 422 miles to the N-NE.
