Negative side effect of TTD

Frankly, with all this thrilling talk, I think the coaster sitting across the midway that's half its size (Magnum) is much more thrilling. Yeah, sure the launch is intense, but that's the only thing that is even somewhat intense. I mean, the first couple rides on it seem ridiculous, but after awhile, you start getting use to it. But, the insane ejector air on Magnum, I still haven't got used to that.

Danny, Revolution became non-thrilling LONG before X and MF were even dreamt of, much less TTD...;). Really, I don't think ANY park outside of Aurora could give a rat's arse how tall TTD is....

bill, thrilled that Danny has taken up my cause of promoting WA, at least until you have ALL been there...:)

I don't think there *is* a negative side of TTD. I doubt even Aurora cares all that much about TTD - at some point they must have seen that they have been beaten and I think their addition to the waterpark and the marked improvement of the product they do have to offer this year is the best indication of that. I think most parks will have the same reaction for a few years as the public did - shake your head at how big the thing is, and just ride! Maybe in a few years someone will have the capital to put up something that will top it, but face it folks, the boom is over.

And as far as getting used to it? I highly doubt that one. I'm not an infrequent Point visitor, but I get there a decent amount of times, and I have yet to "get used" to anything that is offered (well except for PT down - Intamin towers put that to shame). If you're used to any experience, be it TTD, X, S:RoS or the kiddie coaster at the only park that's within 500 miles of your house, then you just need to give it a rest. Nothing will ever be exciting when you do it too much - the key to a happy existance is moderation! (although occasionally there's some over-moderation in some people's views ;) )

Resident Launch Whore

I'm just boohooing that the Giga at Heide Park in Germany that was supposed to cross the 100m barrier was never built. Maybe it would have been built if it would have had the chance to be the tallest or greatest or whatever.
But maybe it wasn't built because the park was sold to the Tussaud's group of parks.
Anyway. There's still expedition GeForce.

That's overstating things a bit. It's a great ride, but it isn't that great. Given the choice, I'd sooner plant my ass on Magnum or Millennium Force all day.

Aah give me a log flume any day......

Doomed?? Some people think the park in Aurora is better than the one in Sandusky... We don't want either of *them* to know that though! ;)

As I said in my post, most, not all of the rides. as several of you stated several rides that I still find thrilling. I didn't mean every ride, as alot are still thrilling, but i dont get that butterfly stomach feeling like I used to on all. granted though, I was more scared on Millenium than Top Thrill Dragster.

I am one.
I am Turbo.
Top Thrill in the front row... anything else is lame
X...Whoa

For the record, I've never got off Xcelerator and said "damn, that wasn't as good as Dragster."

Though Dragster has become my favorite ride, I see no reason to write off everything else just because of that.

I doubt TTD had that much effect on new coaster in 2004. Roller coasters take a while to plan and design. A park wouldn't plan a coaster for 2004 and just cancel it in less than 9-6 months of construction because someone built a 420' coaster. The market is also down like someone else said.

I don't think TTD took away from having fun on any other coaster. Nothing can take away from the non stop speed on MF, the great airtime on Magnum, the slapping of hands on Gemini, etc. Koaster King is right just because you like taller and faster rides doesn't mean everyone else does too. Enthusiast make up a very small portion of the crowds of people that go to parks every year. Parks will invest in what the people want not what the enthusiast want.

Dragster is awesome, and the only *negative* side effect I have seen is NOT getting a rollback yet...lol.

As far as other coasters losing their *thrill* after you ride Dragster is nothing but nonsense. There are plenty of coasters out there that are just as thrilling as the *first time*. ;-)

Several examples are FOF (ok, the launch is nothing but the ride itself still kicks ass!), the Screachin Eagle, Magnum (especially recently!!!!), Deja Vu, most early to mid-90's B&M inverts....I can go on. These rides still give me the chills. :-)

The only negative on TTD isn't a side effect, it's an up effect at the crest of the hill.
