Need a little advice on some parks

I am going on my first multi-park trip this summer. I live in the metro Detroit area and I am taking a 5 day trip to visit the following parks in this order: Busch Gardens (Williamsburg), Hershey Park, Kennywood, and Cedar Point. My buddy suggested that we include Busch Gardens but I am not sure we should. Can anyone tell me if this park is worth going to, as opposed to King's Dominion? I looked at the websites for both parks and it looks to me that King's Dominion has more as well as better rollercoasters. Since the webpage can only tell me so much, I humbly request your informed opinions about which park we should go to, as well as what we should make sure we ride.

Thank in advance everyone

Admittedly, we have to set a tiring pace to visit these parks in that time frame, but we are confident we can do it. The key thing we are trying to avoid is hitting any of these parks on a weekend.

I've been to Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. While PKD may have more coasters, I thought the ones at BGW were better. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the ones at PKD, but if I had to choose I'd go for the Big Bad Wolf and his friends....

Overall Busch Gardens is a much better experience. It is a beautiful park, all of the coasters are outstanding, the food is great and everything is very reasonable. IMO, all of the coasters are top fives in their type

Even though PKD has more rides, the quality is suspect. some are great most are average and a few are poor. the food is not very good and the prices are rediculous for what you get.

I definetly recommend BGW. And good luck fitting in all those parks. It will be tight.

My name is Jason, and I'm addicted to coasters. *** This post was edited by jdancisin on 3/27/2001. ***
Jbelton, if youre in Detroit, go to Gurnee, SFGA, youre close to it.
I've got to agree with the above posts in saying that BGW is (IMHO) a considerably better park than PKD. I do think PKD is definitely worth a visit - I enjoyed my time there last year, and will be returning in a few weeks (AFTER we visit BGW, the main reason for the trip). PKD may have more, but just about every BGW coaster is "world-class", along with a great shoot-the-chutes, excellent shops, wonderful food, and, hands-down, it's the best looking park around. Always a pleasure to visit.
Busch Gardens Williamsburg is a extrordinary park in 3 ways.

First, it is probably the most beautiful amusement park in the world. The hilly terrain is beautifully landscaped, shady, and the rides are artfully worked into the hills.

Second, BGW has some of the best food that you will find at any park.

Third, and most importantly, while BGW has only 5 operating coasters their quality is extremely high. Each is one of the best of its type. The other rides at BGW are also of high quality, and the shows are the best on the east coast north of Florida.

PKD and SFA are both good parks on the road from Busch Gardens to Hershey.
We are making a similar trip in July. BGW, PKD, SFA and Kennywood in 5 days. We went to Hershey last season and the guys won't let me go back on this trip because of time (I just want another 20 laps on Wildcat and Lightening Racer). All of the parks are great in their own way. I would say that you may need to add a day for travel. My advice would be to take a day off or you will burn yourselves out trying to get from one place to another over night. We are stopping in Gettysburg just for a breather (Plus, we are all history and math teachers).

Good luck, I hope you find what your looking for in thrills. Let me know how long it takes you from Detroit to BGW, since we are heading from Toledo. Thanks.

There's nothing like a woodie...
Picking between Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion is sorta like picking between Quantity and Quality. As others have mentioned, Busch Gardens is an overall better experience. It has absolute top notch coasters.

PKD on the other hand, has a wide array of coaster types. With the addition of Hypersonic, there is just a ton to choose from. If you are going with people who aren't in it solely for the coasters, BGW would be a good choice. If they are fellow coaster nuts who want to ride some extreme rides, PKD is great. Another factor could be driving time. PKD is about 1.5-2 hours north of BGW so that could save you some time if you are running a tight schedule.

If it were up to me, I would go to PKD since I haven't ridden Hypersonic and was just at BGW in October. Still, I don't think you can go wrong either way.

If I was you and going for the coaster riding only I'd probably do both the Virginia Parks! We did the Hershey, Kennywood, Six Flags Ohio, Sea World (because I love sea creatures) and Cedar Point trip last year in 5 days and it was AWESOME!!! I'd say GO FOR IT!!! If anything I'd also try to add a day and a half and hit Six Flags Great Adventure (it's like 3.5 hours from Hershey). That park doesn't seem to get much hype on this site but it is REALLY packed full of rides (and people).
GOOD LUCK deciding...I wish I had your decision to make!
Thanks for all the advice guys. I think we will stick with the original plan and go to BGW. I also think we will add an extra day to the trip so we can get some rest! We are still in the planning phase now as we aren't going to do this until August, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Thanks again for your help.
