A proposal for a new theme park at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville is expected to be on the agenda of the Metro Council. The Council is holding its first meeting of the new term Tuesday night. Among the 70 items on the agenda is a plan that would require the Board of Fair Commissioners to gather proposals for a new theme park.

Hey! that reminds me, I'm going to Great Adventure tomorrow night, but the closest hotel I could find was 25 minutes away.
Holler! You got the number... ;)
Nashville? What's that got to do with PPP?
Oh, yeah, Nashville. Apparently, like Houston, they DID need a theme park. Because they had one.
Wow. In that (former-) Astroworld area satellite image, there are cars parked where TC used to proudly stand. That's very sad.
But seeing a big fair like that from the sky is really cool!

The plan for Saturday is: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/317275_1015034...3444_n.jpgTasting!
Seriously. Stop showing me that. I've got 15 different beers in my fridge. Bring Pliny and blow off PPP.

This will go approximately nowhere.
Exactly....hasn't this been "discussed", in one way or another, once or twice every year since Opryland closed?
The Astros don't play in that complex anymore
But, the Houston Texans play there at the Reliant Stadium. And they're charging alot more for parking than Astroworld ever did.
As for Astroworld's closure, it was a combination of a few factors,
-Six Flags was desperate for capital, as they were facing a mountain of debt to pay off. And they gained about $50 million for "selling out" Astroworld.
-Parking situation with the City of Houston and the Texans
-"Nearby" competition from Six Flags Over Texas (managed but not owned by Six Flags, ironically).
-Location, Location, Location. The southside of Houston wasn't really the best for a theme park. Don't let the developers convince you that this was "prime property" ripe for redevelopment. Also, Astroworld was landlocked for expansion and couldn't build a "parking lot" roller coaster similiar to other parks (Magic Mountain, Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Over Texas to name a few).
Astroworld..........Gone, but not forgotten.
As for building a park in Nashville, as Liam Neeson said in Taken, "Good Luck!". There hasn't been a successful major theme park built in the U.S. for awhile.
I can't imagine very many people were forced into deciding between a day at Astroworld and a day at SFoT.
Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
^^I'm pretty sure it hasn't been discussed at the fairgrounds, but there have been other sites discussed. One involving property across Briley Parkway from the Opryland Hotel/Convention Center, one in Spring Hill, TN, and I think I vaguely remember something about the old thermal plant site (this may be more of a rumor than a formal discussion/proposal).

I'd imagine it would amount to the population of this town: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Centerville,+Texas&hl=en&sll=31.258596,-96.001282&sspn=0.760707,0.85556&vpsrc=0&hnear=Centerville,+Leon,+Texas&t=h&z=14

I would have, if I hadn't already paid for the camp site. :)
Drank this round of Pliny, but I can always get more. Not to mention, I have about a gazillion other beers in my fridge and cellar.
