NASCAR Cafe being evicted from the Sahara

I submitted this as news but it appears the Sahara is trying to evict NASCAR Cafe, owners and operators of Speed The Ride from, the Hotel for alleged lease defaults.

Here is the story from the Review Journal

The article says that the Sahara spent more than $6 million on improvements such as the roller coaster? I wager that Speed: The Ride cost a lot more than that, without all of the other improvements that were made.

I wonder how one would go about evicting a roller coaster, anyway?

I wonder who really owns Speed. I think what it comes down to is the Sahara wanting a piece of the pie instead of letting NASCAR Cafe have it.

My guess is that the Hotel Owns it, Nascar Cafe Runs it, kinda like how City of San Diego owns the Giant Dipper, but i believe that the Owner of teh rest of belmont park runs it.

Well, you don't have to read far to figure out the answer to that question...

"The NASCAR Cafe is fighting the Sahara's efforts to evict the restaurant and roller-coaster operator from the hotel-casino.
The Sahara is moving to evict the NASCAR Cafe from its Strip-front property, but the roller-coaster operator is fighting back.
The 1,750-room hotel notified the roller coaster and restaurant operator, Dyer Ventures, on May 23 that it wants the property at 2535 Las Vegas Blvd. South vacated by Monday."

It looks like the only thing in question is who will actually own (and profit from) the NASCAR Cafe and S:TR. It doesn't look like the coaster (great ride BTW) will be affected or closed. There may be some downtime where the ownership changes, (speculation on my part) but nothing serious.

Jeff, you are in for a good ride. Enjoy!
Jeff: You are here Thursday? Let me know if you need any Vegas pointers! BTW---Speed is the best ride in town! I still enjoy the air out at Desperado though until the break run! Hope you enjoy your time in Vegas! Keep those tax dollars coming!

Speed never got the lapbar-only treatment as did the Paramount and Six Flags Premier coasters, right?

No, Speed still runs with OTSR's, but from the reports coming in, they don't affect the ride much.

Rob, you are correct. Speed features OTSR's. They are not that bad though as they are heavily padded and the ride really doesn't bang your head around that much (the overbanked turn out of the front of the hotel is a bit jarring, but not painful by any means). I found Speed to be a very fun ride... the second set of LIMs was a pleasant surprise, and diving under the sidewalk is a neat visual.

My favorite ride on the Strip though goes to Canyon Blaster... short, but it's unique setting and Drachen Fire-style trains make for a decent ride.

Prog is right. Speed is the most comfy Premier I've ridden with OTSR's, and that's due to the minimal curves in the layout. I was very impressed with both Speed and Canyon Blaster, and had a hard time deciding which one I liked better. CB's claim to fame is being indoors, running stylish trains, and the pop of air after the verticals that is bound to launch any unrestrained rider through the dome! :)
