Name this ride???

I have seen this ride at fairs, thats the only place. From the outside it looks like a flying saucer. You go through a little door and then it spins. I have never been on one, but I would like to see pics of it and the name of it. Also a company name, with site if possible. Thanks
All I know is that it is called Gravitron.

Yes, it's a Gravitron, and it's made by Wisdom Industries. It uses the same centrifical forces as the Rotor, Roundup, etc., taking it to probably the most extreme level I've seen in an amusement ride.
Yup, I remember at the L.A. County Fair they had one about 5 years ago. You lay backwards and then the thing spins, then they play awesome music. It's fun if you like Pukey rides. I tolerate spin rides, but they're not my fave. My favorite flat ride is the Roto Shake. Or the reverse Roto Shake the 'Top Spin'.
I've done the Gravitron and it reminded me of the old Rotor rides, like the one at Lake Compounce or Great Escape.

I'm not much of a spinny flat ride fan either , but there's one I really like now called a Huss Frisbee. It swings you side to side while spinning the whole seating area. Just when you think it has spun its fastest, it gets faster. Great fun.

There's one at SFNE with a Tomahawk theme which is great fun... I also saw one at SFMW but it was down the day I was there.

Has anybody else tried a Huss Frisbee?

I saw one at our locak fair this year it was called the Starship 2000. After its spinning top speed the things you stand against move up the wall. The walls are leaning back to start with. The cool thing is they have a DJ/ride op in the center of it and he stays stationary. www.reithoffer.com they are the ones who put the rides up at our fair and they have it on their site.

Yup, it's a Gravitron...or a Starship 2000, which is the current version. I verified with the manufacturer recently that apart from the lighting package, the difference between the two models is mostly that the Starship 2000 has a pneumatic door.
Of course, that part of the question has already been answered. But nobody else came up with this part: Go to http://www.wisdomrides.com and click on "Starship 2000" for more information.

Gravitron, a similar ride can be found at Adventureland named the Silly Silo

Is this the "Tazmanian Devil" at SFMW? If so, that is a definate "not for me" ride. It was not running the day I went, (10-6) but I doubt very heavily that I would ever get on one of those. I can practically guarantee that a ride like that would make me "recycle my last meal." Same with the "Gravitron."

Gotta ride 'em all!
Randy! Oh my god, is the Silly Silo still there?! I remember riding that when I was a kid growing up in Iowa! And on that one, doesn't the floor drop down or out?

I was on a Gravitron last year and while the ride was spinning a guy turned around so his feet were pointing up and was doing sit-ups. It was amazing enough, but then I saw him puking his guts out afterwards. Funny.
I rode a Huss Frisbee. At least I think it was. Is that the thing that swings like a pirate ship and the entire thing you sit in rotates at the same time? If thats it I rode it at SFNE.
--I rode one similar to that at our fair too. This one was called Wild Claw. You sat in seats like an inverted coaster all facing inward about 30 people or so. It would swing back and forth and rotate higher than a Frisbee so at the peak you would be almost upside down. Too bad carnival rides only last about a minute. I think this one was made by Zamperala. Not sure if it was but it had lots of lights like Zamperala.

Yes, Coasterpunk, that's the Frisbee at SFNE.

Shady Z,

Yeah, the floor still drops out like it always has ;) That whole section by the Tornado (which just got retracked) has stayed exactly the same for as long as I can remember.

When's the last time you went to the only amusement park in Iowa? (Arnold's Park isn't just a park, its a legend ;) )

WHAT!?! I always sit up! It gives me a rush, and then I get all dizzy. It's AWESOME. That's one of my favorite carnival rides.
Well Randy,

The last time I was there was probably a year after you were born in 1983. I lived in Iowa (Tipton, near Iowa City) all of my early life. We went down to visit Disney in Florida in 84, then ended up moving to Orlando in 87. I miss the old park, and was there the year Tornado opened. I'd love to ride Outlaw when I get back someday.

Shady Z,

Things have changed a bit, they've added quite a number of flat rides, and a space shot. They've now got two CCI's (The Outlaw & The Underground), and a steel double looper. I'm going to college at Cornell in Mount Vernon. If you ever head up this way just holler.
