A mix of lodging, shops and attractions that would lure people to the Pavilion area year-round is planned. The complex includes an oceanfront arcade and 49 rides.
...seems like they were talking of the future.
I guess it was just bad journalism. ;)

Am I reading this right? I have never been to Myrtle Beach but this park has a 6 year old CCI woodie that's going to be toothpicks? That's downright insane.
Yeah, I really hope someone will save it. That ride was really good the first couple of years it was open.
With this and the news of the demolition of the Texas Cyclone my day's kinda wrecked.

'Twas a time when a trip to the seashore was a special opportunity to get away from "normal life" and relax in a scenic and peaceful environment or stroll along experiencing unusual and exciting things.
But no more. Ocean front areas are only good for cheaply built condos and pretentious "upscale" shopping plazas hawking the same overpriced crap you can get anywhere. Why do people spend their precious vacation time and money traveling to places that look exactly like the places they left?
LOL! I couldn't agree more. There were a zillion shops at Myrtle Beach, at least there was the last time I was there (1990) and I am sure there have been a zillion more built since then. Just how many shopping plazas does a tourist town need?
While I have nothing against shopping plazas I think removing the Pavilion is a VERY stupid mistake. It's much more valuable than just another shopping plaza. I will be leaving my comments on that petition site as well.
