Myrtle beach or Dollywood

I'm going to the CCC event at Carowinds . I want to hit another park during the trip.

I've decided on either MB or DW. Is there anything at MB really worth going that far out of the way. I went to DW last year so I know it's a pretty nice park with a great woodie and a good arrow.

I'm leaning hard toward DW.

Need someone to help with the driving? LOL!

Honestly, the good stuff at Myrtle is as follows: Swamp Fox (FK), Great Pistolero Round-Up (FK), Mad Mouse (MBP), and the Top Spin at MBP. There's also a cool kiddie "Little Eagle" at MBP.

If I were you - I'd be tempted to get to the Pavilion while it's still around....although my oddsmakers tell me it SHOULD have one more season left, it'd be a shame to never get there...

Finally, MBP's Hurricane is truly a gigantic waste of lumber and steel...awful ride. Salt air + no maintenance + G-trains + lateral-heavy layout = :(:(:(

I would recommend Myrtle Beach if you have never been. Sounds like you have done Dollywood although I love DW and have been twice from Charlotte already this year. MB will be crowded which is why I usually wait and do my beach trip after Labor Day.

There is also a Crazy Mouse spinning coaster about 7 miles north of the Pavilion on Hwy 17. Great fun!

What rollergator says though makes sense. The Pavilion may not be around much longer. Long live the Swamp Fox!!! *** Edited 8/9/2005 2:35:21 AM UTC by swampfoxer***

Dollywood is excellent! One of my favorite parks, and PF/Seiverville is like Myrtle in the Mountains.

However, if you've never been to myrtle, and even if you have, Pavilion's fate is uncertain. Get there. There are loads of things to do at Myrtle, plus the beach! And Family Kingdom is a great park. Plus, this year, both Pavilion & Family Kingdom have a Sally Shootem up Darkride.

I'd say Myrtle, if for nothing other than the beach. It is worth going down there.

^Agreed.

Dollywood is amazing but it's going to be around for a LONG time.

The Pavillion on the other hand, well, we just don't know. Get there while you have the chance! I haven't been there in 15 years so I am sure it's changed quite a bit. The Swamp Fox is a GREAT little out-and-back.

<----who still needs to get her butt down there before year's end.

Yes. Yes you do! In fact, you and gator can help me move, then you'll have 2 reasons to get there ;).
Like others have said, if you have never been there, do Myrtle Beach. Who knows how much longer the Pavilion is going to be around plus it just seems like it would make sense (geographically wise)with a trip to Carowinds, as you would then pretty much get all of the major Carolina credits.
Do MBP while you can. Seaside parks are disappearing fast (i.e. MSAP last year). Plus, MBP has a Rainbow running a WICKED program!

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!

I'll echo what everyone else is saying. As nice as Dollywood is the park will be around for years to come. Go to Myrtle Beach.

mOOSH [visited both for first time this year]

Let me put it this way free rides or pay for your rides? I'd go for free rides at Dollywood, but since the park in mb maybe closing i'd hit there but really I'd go for Dollywood!

Not sure exactly what you mean by "free rides". Are you assuming the original poster has a season pass?

If he does not, ticket prices are $43.50 for DW.

Family Kingdom at Myrtle Beach has an all day pass for $19.50 (you can print a $3.00 coupon on the internet).

Pavilion has an all day pass for $24.95 (plenty of discount coupons available).

So, for 95ยข more (not counting the discount coupons for the MB parks) you can enjoy all the rides in 2 parks at Myrtle Beach. Plus, the parks at the beach stay open later than Dollywood's 8pm.

I love Dollywood, but if I had to choose, I would get my money's worth (ride-wise) at MB.

Plus there is the beach, which is free...
I got my room booked so I guess I have to go to Myrtle Beach now. Where can I find discounts for MB Pavillion.
Neither.....Conneaut Lake Park.....

Period!

Any of the local hotels or welcome centers should have coupon books with some kind of discount coupon for the park in them. The official Myrtle Beach welcome center is located on 501 (near Aynor) and is easy to hit on the way to the beach. They should have plenty of coupon books in there.
What dates will you be down there, Bartman? I'm leaving tomorrow for Myrtle.
I'll be there this friday.
Ah, the day I'm leaving.
Alright, I ment would you pay the admission and then pay for every ride i go on or go to dollywood and pay once at the gate and go on rides without paying to get on them during my day at Dollywood. Now do catch my drift? *** Edited 8/18/2005 3:00:31 PM UTC by CoasterCraze***
^Not really. As I stated above, Pavilion & Family Kingdom offer all day free rides too. And the combination of both parks POP price comes out cheaper than one DW entrance ticket.
