My Son of Beast Pains

Within the past month my friend and I traveled from Cleveland down to Cinncinnati to hit Paramount's Kings Island. We traveled over to the son of beast first thing. Although, as we were loading ourselves into the train my friends ankles got crossed just as they locked our lap bars. As we went around turns my friend and I got terrible pains in our thighs and my friend screamed out in pain for his foot. When we got off we were both limping due to our bruised thighs and my friends twisted ankle. Has anyone else experienced bruises or pains from the Son of Beasts gigantic lap bars?

Yup, I experienced exactly the pain in my hips and legs you mentioned. Worst rolling stock and restraint design EVER, but this has been discussed ad nausem.

There should be a height limit of, say, 6'4" or something for this coaster. I think the pain occurs mainly for tall guests.

I didn't have too much of a problem until they installed that little block underneath your feet. That now causes my legs to be jammed up into the lap bar and I always come off with painful bruises. Needless to say, I don't ride SoB anymore.

know what you mean, son of beast was the roughest coaster I ever rode.

What do you expect for an 80 MPH woodie?

Ride in the center of a car. The ride is smooth as glass there.

I rode SoB in its first year and although it was rough the Beast is the one that left bruises for me. Yes, the restraints do suck. The way they have that huge hand-hold or whatever that thing on top of the actual "bar" is, it almost squeezed the breath out of me on every ride. I'm not exactly thin but I'm not too fat either so I suspect others have had this problem. I heard that they re-tracked it since then and it was supposed to be much smoother (but it had a LONG way to go before becoming a "smooth" woodie)....I guess not?

It doesn't bother me I have never gotten a bruise, it's rough and I'm a big guy 6'0 230 pounds and I ain't skinny, I ain't fat, but it doesn't bother me that bad, I htink they will get rid of the floor blocks eventually.

Yes, I've had SOB bruises, and I liked it.

I know it sounds weird, but I'd say it was similar to the bruises you get from playing tackle football with no pads on when you're a kid.

I'm with Chris. I have gotten bruises from SoB, they were on my hips, BIG bruises too (That's what 20 some rides in a day does to ya.) But I liked having them. Yea, it sounds twisted, but it reminded me of what an Awesome day it was. They didn't hurt either.
I guess SOB is living up to it's name, since I was screaming it down the exit ramp. We rode it 4 times and never felt comfortable enough to enjoy it. The course is incredible and the G's on the first helix are stellar, but, and I hate to say this, if there had to be a crash over in that corner, I wish it were SOB trains and not the Top Gun trains. To be honest, on my travels to PKI in the next 10 years, I will ride SOB once per trip.....no more than that.....unless they receive new trains.

There's nothing like a woodie...

I loved SOB on my recent trip to PKI. I didn't expect to like it, because of things that I had heard, but I was very surprised what a good ride it was. I definately wouldn't call it smooth as glass, but at the same time I wouldn't call it overly rough considering its size and speed.

I do, however, have to agree with other's opinions here. I did not like the restraints on it. I found them very uncomfortable and there is no way that I could have gotten right back on and ridden again because of the discomfort. It didn't keep me from enjoying the ride (in fact I personally liked it better than Beast) but it did make me think twice about how often I was willing to ride it.

Yup..with those trains, one ride was enough. I spent the rest of my time on it's Pop.

Son of Beast was designed for people with short legs. It is a great ride for my wife 5'7" and a very rough ride for me 6'2". They should make a special seat for us tall people.

I just wanna ask if any of you have ever gotten really bad bruises from Raging Wolf Bob at CP??

All I have to say is...great airtime....but OUCH!!

I've never gotten bruises from the raging wolf bob before. Compared to the SoB the Raging Wolf Bob is like a smooth car ride, and by the way the Raging Wolf Bob is at SFWOA not at Cedar Point. You edited your post already maybe you should give it another try.

No, your wrong. The meanstreak is one tough ride in some parts of the train. I've had my share of bangs and scratches on that ride. Although, nothing compares to the thrashing I recieved on SoB.
I'm really shocked after reading this, through my own personal experience I've found Mean Streak and Villian to be much more painful than this coaster.
Villian and the Beast are the smoothest woodies I've ever riden. I guess you can say they're smooth as glass.

I don't mind rough rides EXCEPT for SOB. I laugh when Wildcat, Beast, Vortex, Villian, ect. bangs me around, but SOB really hurts.

I have only rode it once though, so I WILL give it another chance when i ever get back to PKI.
