I figured this would be the ideal one to get because of convenience to travel with it and just plug it in and play.
Do any of you have this version and if so, is it worth getting? Click here for this version.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.
I develop Superior Solitaire when not riding coasters.
If you do get it I recommend getting a useful tool for the job: duct tape. Duct taping the corners down so it can be stretched out and stay in one place helps when you are playing the faster songs. If you don't want to shell out that much money for the game when there is a risk that she may just stop playing I'd go for the one you sent the link to. Eventually you can move up to just buying a PSX or PS2 at a GameStop and pick up Konamix or DDR MAX2.
Or you could be a sick fool like me and build them.

She is just a beginner at it so she doesn't beat the crap out of the foot pads.
I could care less that it isn't from Konami. As long as it works. :)
But,,,
I might just go ahead and get the PS2 version since I already have that game system. I just don't want to drop $100.

I've found a few combo packs out there that come with the Pad and the game for around 50$, but I'm trying to figure out if that is worth it. I dont want to get her a cheap pad and have it crap out on her after a month or so.
I'm going to go check out EB games to see if they have any used copies, and I'll probably save about 20 bucks doing that. I'd suggest you do the same-they might also offer some custom packages as well that can help you save a buck or two.

the ones that come with the mat in the game are horrible. they bunch up since there is no way for it to keep flat.

And while we're semi-on the subject, don't buy the 100-in-1 Nintendo game controller thingy. Also illegal.

As for the DDR pad - is your daughter a little kid who just wants something to stomp around on, and she'll get bored of it in a few weeks? If so, get this pad. If your daughter is a little older and has the patience and the desire to build up her skill at the game, get a PS2 version and a GOOD soft pad (the kind with a zipper and a piece of soft foam inside).
And FastBall:
I know I'm sick and twisted, I've been called that since I built these and I'm happy to report that for the first time in the two years that I've worked on these pads, they survived a party without one mishap. I took the pads to my girlfriend's house for New Years and it was a big hit. I would estimate that around 20 people were taking turns on it from 7pm to 2am.
Jeff can attest that in the past my DDR pads just plain sucked. They'd last one or two games and something would go wrong. So it looks like I got the perfect sensor created that will last 100+ games. I'm keeping that pads over at the house to see how long they last.
I should dig through my computer and see if I still have my DDR pad plans in Visio. It's some pretty hardcore stuff, but I still have more plans including a "non-lethal" lighting package.

Inspired by Brent, I mounted mine of sheets of plywood, outlined the arrows with pipe cleaner, covered the whole think with clear vinyl. It works like a charm, is very durable and you can feel the arrows. My next step is going to be adding some foam padding somewhere.
