Muskegon's Year in Review:MIA Claims 2 of 10 spots

The Muskegon Chronicle released the top ten local news items of this year today. MIA claimed spots 5 and 7 in the countdown. 5 being the Chaos accident, and 7 the purchasing of the park by Cedar Fair. Interestingly enough, it says that "the ride later was removed from the park," referring to Chaos. Yet another point to ponder. Sorry, the story is not yet available on the Chronicle's website. So what do you think? Is Chaos really a goner?

Obviously the statement of someone who has *never been* to Muskegon :-)

Not much happens on the *west side of MI* let alone in Muskegon in particular :-)

I don't know if you consider Grand Rapids Western Michigan, but I was up there last summer on business and was surprised at what a great little city it is. The downtown area I'm told used to be a real hole, but I thought it was beautiful and well developed.

Then the drive out to MA reminded me a little bit of a New England beach town area. It's a nice area, but I was astounded at how little there is right around the park.

"As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are. If you can believe, there's something worth fighting for..." - Garbage, "Parade"

GR is usually included in the general west MI description and it isn't half bad (though I prefer Kalamazoo myself, more stuff to do for a college age person) but still, nothing much happens, ditto for the lakeshore :-)

The lakeshore *is* a bit reminiscent of the east coast at spots but you're right, MA is in the middle of freaking nowhere; thus my lack of surprise that it made 2 of the top 10 stories in the area ...still, it can't be much worse than the news in my local paper; the possibility of angle parking spots to replace the parallel ones in front of the post office actually made the paper once....... :-)

While it is true nothing much does happen over here, consider this about the stories;

Cedar Point draws heavily from Western Michigan. Just about every school in the area has bus trips heading there, so the idea of another Cedar Point much closer does have a great appeal.

The Chaos incident was a major news story - no matter how you cut it. A catastrophic failure on a "well maintained fixed installation ride" was almost unthinkable to many people, while at the same time there was another group just waiting to say "I told you those rides aren't safe!"  And the way they covered it - including an interview with the guy trapped on the bottom for five hours with his chin pressed into his chest - would give anybody chills.
