Mr. Hydes Nasty Fall

I live near SFWOA and everytime I go, it seems that Mr. Hydes Nasty fall is breaking down or closed. What is the problem with this ride and why do they just fix it, or get rid of it!
it's been open every (8) time i've gone. Ride it while you can;)
We've had some lengthy discussions about this ride. Look it up in the archives. It will definitely enlighten you.
All of these first generation Intamin drop rides are maintainence nightmares. Even Demon Drop at CP has quite a bit of downtime.

Oh yeah, 1st gens are insanely unreliable. FreeFall at SFOG has a lot of issues. None that would make it or any other 1st gen unsafe, but all those moving part eventually wear down and break or cause a computer error... just too many moving parts.

That's too bad, I really like First Gen. Freefalls, they're a lot of fun. Hopefully it'll be open next time you go.

I think Mr. Hydes Nasty Fall does considerably well compared to the demon drop.
I rode Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall right after is broke down and I got pieces of something from the ride fall on my lap.

That ride is sad. The ride ops sometimes have to run up to the brake run and push the car to get it to drop back down to the station.
ive only ridden a 2nd gen, and i lurrrrrrrrrved it

I have never seen that much downtime with Demon Drop? Someone said it's unreliable too? I go to CP like 10-15 times a year and have never seen it down more than a couple of hours at a time?

Mr. Hyde's has only been down once when I've been there too - granted that's only 5 times in 3 years, but still I've never seen that ride down for again more than an hour or two?

It would be great if the park finally scrapped Mr. Hyde's and put a standing gyro-drop in its place. :)

I agree, a standing gyro drop would be perfect in this location!

It's amazing to me that with the increases in technology since the 80's when these things started to appear that Intamin has not started to push for magnetic brake retrofits. I mean, one of the most problematic things on these rides is the braking. Between the algorythm to actually slow the car (but not stop it) and the maintenance intensive liquid cooled brakes, it makes perfect sense to me. No more having to worry about adjustments as the brake fins wear down. You wouldn't think it would be that expensive either ........

Granted SFWoa has less cars than CP's but I've gotten in line twice for CP's Demon Drop and it has broken down on me and other guests. As for which has broken down more this year...that's a tough one. I'd say it's a pretty much a tie. Though, I also can say SFWoA has not broken down nearly as much as last year but CP's has broken down more than last years.

the difference in ride experience AND in maintenance b/w the first-gen and second-gen drop is beyond belief...I don't even bother with the 1st-gen rides anymore......

but then, Intamin came out with the truly miraculous drop rides, the gyro-drops....gotta keep up with S&S...;)
