Motels Near Great Escape/Lake George

There must have been a demand for them, because they've already been built.

But I'm trying to find one for late June. Every one I find is out of my price range. Anyone know of any cheapies? I don't really need amenities. As long as it has a bathroom and a bed, I'm good.. Knowing it's a resort area at a popular time, I understand I'll have to pay more than at my customary Motel 6, but I can't go higher than $60 a night. There are no Motel 6's in the area. Even the Super 8 wants $117 per night. Any suggestions? I'm on a VERY limited budget. Thanks.

There a two Motel 6's listed near Albany, which looks to be about an hour away. If you are looking for cheap, maybe you could sacrifice having the hotel near the park and drive for a while to get to it.

Maybe find a hotel an hour towards your home, if you are only planning to visit the park for one day? A big plus there is that you will be closer to home when you start back.

I don't know any other solutions here, except that maybe you can sleep at a nearby rest stop or parking lot.

That area is pretty pricey in general in the summer season. If you can swing it, you might be better off in the fall weekend, either before or after peak leaf-peeping.

^I'm an admitted "leafer". It's one of the innumerable benefits of the annual PPP trip - I totally get the required "look at how beautiful the fall foliage looks" concept (although I have no idea why people like snow).

It's slippery. When you put it on a hill, you can go fast on it with just gravity's assistance. That's pretty cool, right there.

I'm looking in that direction now. Yeah, it's an hour+ hike to GE, but I'll save a minimum of $30 bucks each night of two by staying in Albany. And although I'm not going home from Albany, the distance FROM the previous stop and TO the next stop will be cut down a bit if I stay in Albany. So that's how I'm leaning at this point. Thanks, Travis.

If you sign up for Red Roof Inn's online thing, they Email you 20 percent off deals from time to time. We stayed in Danville last year for under 50 dollars.

Thanks, Bill. I had previously scoped out the Red Roof near Great Escape. Out of my price range, even with the potential discount. I made my reservation in Albany last night.

I'm not going to get baited into it this time around, Billb. lol

I didn't mean anything by it other than the fact that you can get a Red Roof inn discount by signing up for a something online. My wife gets 20% off offers all the time. For some reason they are good everywhere but Manhattan (which I kind of understand) and Branson MO (which I dont)

It lmay be too late since you already booked in Albany - but what dates are you going?

I just searched Sat June 25, and you can get a 2* hotel in the Glen Falls/Lake George area on Hotwire for $66 (+ fees) for that night. According to betterbidding.com, it looks like that's probably the Best Western Lake George, 4 mi from the park. Priceline "Name Your Own Price" is usually even cheaper, and according to the map, the Lake George Zone is only 7.2 miles long.
