I was just wondering why there's so many people who view CP as a love/hate relationship.
I love CP, and I think certain people dislike it because they are jealous that it's better than their hometown park. Does anyone else agree it's common to see enthusiasts who love or hate CP?

Long Live Cedar Fair ;)
I think that there are actually very few serious CP haters out there. I do believe that jealosy plays a part. I have not been to CP, I live 1.5 hrs away from SFMM, both are great parks, but I am jealous of CP, it seems to eek SFMM out on a few points. (at least that seems to be the popular opinion)

Gotta ride 'em all!
Hmmm...I've never actually met anyone who hated CP, but I think that some of the people who are a bit harsher when grading the park are those who might be a bit jealous, as you suggested. It has the most coasters of any park on the planet and many of its rides get absolutely sparkling reviews from so many coaster fans. Perhaps this is why some people will be a bit tougher when grading CP, as if to say, "Yes, it's great, but don't be overwhelmed by its massive popularity; decide for yourself if it's really so great!"
Personally, I adore Cedar Point. It's my favorite place on the planet. ^_^ Long live the Magnum XL-200!
I view it as a big time summer movie. You see these dazzling reviews and everyone says, "this movie is awesome...you have to see it". It gets so pumped up, that when they do see it, they are disappointed because of 'overhype'. That's how I hear people who make it to CP once every 5 years and have a great park an hour from them. Not many people speak in negative terms concerning CP, it's just we all love to talk about "the greatest park" in the world and people DO get a little jealous. I know Chitown, whose homepark is SFGAm, has stated on the forums that we are "taking it for granted" or are lucky to have such a great park in close proximity. In no way am I ripping on Chitown, but he knows that we ARE lucky. You look on the general buzz and find that CP is the most talked about park. Heck, it's almost 3(or 4) to 1. I will never take it for granted, I'll just keep going and take on whatever they give me. This topic is probably going to start another Parkwar XXIV with PKI lovers, but hey, we have a darn good place to spend a summer's day and so do they...but ours is a little better...
he he...

There's nothing like a woodie...
Your never going to get an entire population of people to agree on anything, no matter how great you may think it is. I learned this at a fairly young age, when I began to hear people bash Disneyland, which at the time, I thought was the perfect park. CP is a wonderful park, but I think to expect everyone to love it just because you do, is asking a bit much, no park can live up to that much hype.
I wouldnt say lucky and I am not the only one who has brought up the case of "You take it for granted". I bring that phrase up when I see park bashing within Ohio. The only lucky part that I look at is Ohio has 3 mega parks with popular coasters. I am in no way jealous. In fact if I only make it out to CP once a year because its only a 5 1/2 hours away it will make me appreciate the park even more. Lets not start a park war here because if it gets out of hand this topic is on thin ice of being closed.
My home park is CP,my favorite park is PKI,and the park Im jealous about is SFMM.
Man talk about a park that sounds like its got it all.
I really dont see peeps knockin one park over another other than a few CP fanatics who post dumb crap like callin Goliath a little coaster.Thats the kind of crap that really gets to me.

It's true. I hate when people get all uptight about a negative CP comment, then turn right around and do the same thing to another park. All parks have something wonderful to offer, otherwise, just go to CP and don't visit other parks.
For me and my friends (who live 15min. from Dorney Park, and on hour from Hersheypark) we seem to view Cedar Point with a certain "godliness". I think it is due to how much is there. Although Hesheypark(my home park) is a petty good park. Cedar point is miles ahead of almost all other parks.

Racers Start your Engines!
at Hersheypark
I think its kind of silly to say “my park is better then your park” or “your park sucks”. We are not sports fans, taunting another city because their team lost. It’s nice that most people on this board don’t stoop to this level. go to CP more then any another park because I only live 30 minute away. But I love going to other parks, even if their rides are not as big or plentiful.
As far as people not liking CP, I can see how this can happen. If you prefer a heavily themed park, like a Busch or Disney, you may be disappointed. Or if you hear so much hype about the rides, they can not live up the expectations.
On this board, at least, I think some of the people that feel strongly about CP are here because they "leaked over" from the sister site, "Guide to the Point!", which is all CP (so we might see a greater proportion of CP lovers on these boards)
I love Cedar Point. I reason a lot of people on this site love/like CP is because CP has the most coasters and this is a coaster site.
My only thing is this, not necessarily on this site, but I've seen CP held to such high esteem that it is almost like they cant be touched. There seem to be some fanatics who love CP's dirty drawers. I think the love/hate shows up when someone else will engage the "SuperFan" by trying to point out that some other park has a decent collection of amusements. It seems to be even worse if someone even suggests that a Premier Park is good (e.g. SFMM, SFGAdv, SFGAm). Personally, I love Six Flags Parks and have a personal goal of visiting every one (wish they would slow down on the "hostile takeovers" =]). That being said, I was blown away by CP the first time (1989) and it has been my favorite park ever since =P. I'll holla.
lata,
the hostyl one
I think a lot of this prejuduce is against foriegen parks more than USA's. People get mad at the English, Japineese, French, Russians, and Mexicans.
"They don't even know what roller coasters are."
"Those crazy Japineese!"
"They don't deserve roller coasters."
Other haters of cp sfmm have the same problems.
I think it caused by the fact of...
It is their home park.
The other park is too far away.

What is a real vaction?
Cedar Point!
Since CP IS my hometown park, I can't hate it. But if it wasn't my hometown park, I would probably be very jealous.
personally, I enjoy every park I go too. I love the amusement part atmosphere. I live 7 1/2 hours from CP, and 7 hours from PKI, I like them both. I wish they were closer to me. I usually go to SFGA a couple times a year. It is only 3 hours away, and it fills the thrill need I have.
We need more people like you coastercrazy! I got into coasters and theme parks because I love them. Not so I could latch on to just one park, and look down my nose at the rest. Of course, I have my favortie(BGW), but I wish I could visit all of them every year! Doesn't make me jealous, but I have a mind of my own thank you very much.
