Most Influential of the 90's

excuse me, I screwed that all up!!! :) Honestly, I have this woman on my mind and ...well let's just say that coasters are taking a momentary backseat. The original post shall undergo editing!

BTW: You all knew what I meant...so what if some of the words were wrong. I'm following the example of our president-elect (???) Dubya! *** This post was edited by 2Hostyl on 12/7/2000. ***
I would have to go with Batman: The Ride. You look at what an impact that ride had on the coaster world. How long did it take for another 200 foot coaster to be constructed after Magnum. I feel that Magnum didn't have the huge impact that Batman did. How many inverted's have been spawn. B&M picked up where Arrow left off with their suspended coasters. Not only was Batman the most influential coaster of the 90's, but I think that B&M was the most influential company of the 90's. In my opinion.

Steel Eel is not a hypercoaster. It is only a 150ft tall with a 150ft drop. Apollos Chariot has a 210 ft drop but is only 175ft tall so I will give you that one so three were built in 99'.

The next Hyper Coaster built in the U.S. after Magnum was in 94' Desperado. Unless you consider the Steel Phantom 91 wich would get the same
status as AC only being a hyper by using the terrain to its advantage.

Also I do not consider Shuttle Coasters in the same category.

Yeah, like I said, Steel Eel is a hypercoaster, so that would make four hypers to open in 1999. Before this goes *anywhere* however, I'll just say right off the bat we obviously have differing opinions about what qualifies as a hyper. To me, Steel Eel is more than qualified as a hypercoaster.

Joe, who will finally ride the overbraked hypercoaster that is Steel Eel in May of 2001.

I agree the Magnum, Batman, and Kumba all are responsible for bringing forth the modern era of steel coasters, but let's not forget about Raven. This was CCI's first BIG-time contribution to the coaster world, and with it, they changed the way people think about wooden coasters. Before Raven, wooden coasters were caught up in the "tallest, fastest" game: we had Hercules, Texas Giant, Mean Streak, Rattler...etc. With Raven, CCI proved that an 85 foot tall coaster can blow the socks off a giant, and it thus started the pattern of wooden coaster building that we are seeing now. With exception of SOB, almost all woodies built in the last half of the 90's are about 80 - 120 feet tall, and excellent rides at that.

Well their first huge, heart stopping contribution came with the Outlaw at Adventureland.

I have to go with Batman: The Ride!
I'm going to go with Tower of Terror and Superman the Escape. Breaking the 100 mph barrier is pretty significant, and the LSM technology is already paving the way for the future of Roller Coasters.

Batman and Kumba are probably the most influential. I always remember seeing Kumba on T.V. commercials, T.V. shows and on the Discovery channel. And Batman... I remember the first time I saw Batman up close at SFMM back in 1994, I was amazed!!!! *** This post was edited by Superbatboy on 12/7/2000. ***
Randy,

The reason I point at Raven instead of Outlaw is that I think Outlaw really wasn't really influential. After building the Raven, CCI took off and didn't look back. Raven is still rated # 1 in the Amusement Business Wooden Coaster poll.
Outlaw may have been a precursor of the type of wooden coaster to come, but it did not cause a stir for parks to say: "We need a ride like that." Raven caused this.

MooreOn,

I was kiddin ;) Adventureland is a hop skip and a jump away and I was just wanted to plug the park. Outlaw is fun, but rather small.

Not to mention Outlaw has Boodley written all over it. I'd almost consider that a GCI more than a CCI. That's what it felt like to me when I rode it at least.

I think Timber Wolf was influental, mainly cause it stole the #1 coaster in the world spot from Magnum. It also proved that you didn't need 200' to be #1 and that WOODIES RULE!

I think that I agree. Although Magnum was made in 89(?), it has had the most influence on the 90's I think that any of the new rides built by CCI, especially ghostrider, will have a huge influence on the next decade (well, 1995-2005), bringing wood back to the theme parks, and finally making them better than anything with steel once again!
