Moser Speedflip video - have to see to believe!

I read somewhere that that was the only one ever made. I can believe it too because the amount of wear and tear those motors must take while moving both of those arms without a counterweight at all must be insane!
As much as I like to think I have the intestinal fortitude and gastric stamina to survive any ride I think I may have met my match on this one. That just seems like too many things going in too many directions at once.

It has to be a mechanics worst nighmare. *** Edited 5/14/2005 3:28:28 PM UTC by Brad G***

I feel like spilling my stomach innards just looking at that thing... Could be this illness I've come down with though. :)
Yes, the "Flying Circus" is the only one of its kind ever built. But the reason that it was no big seller has nothing to do with its technical performance. The ride is very reliable and I have never seen it experiencing any downtime or problems.

The company that built it, Waagner-Biro, from Austria is usually building bridges in earthquake areas around the world and it seems that the manufacturing of thrillrides is not their main interest.

Another factor why "magic arms" (the original name) stayed a prototype is the actual ride itself. It just isnĀ“t all that great.

While many people will refuse to ride it because it looks so vomit-inducing and downright scary, others (like me) are just bored by it.

It moves rather slow except for the great moment, when both rotations add up at the top. The seating arrangement is solitary and there is just too much hangtime. It is more fun to watch than to ride.

At every fair I have seen it, you will notice droves of people watching but very few riding. But it does look very impressive, especially by night.

Here are some nice pictures:

LONNOL, I guess you're right, although I would swear it was the 4 arm model I rode. Regardless, the ride has the same effect, and rotation system, and it was just nasty. :)

tricktrack - its hard to tell from the pics all the directions of movement of the flying carpet. I understand the small arm holding the seats revolved around it's axis as did the large arm. Did the disc of seats rotate as well [like a frisbee]?
Hmm. Off the top of my head I don't know anything in North America that travels with four arms that does that. The only other things I can come up with are the Zamperla Energy Storm:

Butler has or had one of these and could have booked it in. Incidentally, it was the reduced arm (and reduced trailer) version of the Soriani and Moser Energy Storm:

Obviously the Moser Speedflip is a derivative of this.

The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is the KMG Experience:

But it also has 3 arms and I don't remember Jim P. or Ray Cammack booking it at the PNE.

LONNOL, your absolutely right. I was sitting behind Nasai at the PNE that year, and remember glancing at the vehicles as we exited and it was indeed labeled Moser Twin Flip. Similar to the video, that ride just kicked arse!

Mamoosh: Yes, the gondola spins as well but not very fast.

Check the link that was posted by RollrCoasterCrazy in this thread. Here it is again:

You can see a two minute video of the Flying Circus among many other flatrides and coasters.

Yep, you're right LONNOL, I remember the back-to-back seating now. I've also been on the Zamperla Energy Stom but didn't find it too special. It does the "scrambler" motion with you completely inverted, but it was too slow when I rode it to be ultra-extreme like I felt it could have been. ;)

Don't they have one of those KMG Experiences at the LA fairs now? I thought they got one last year. Looks fun!

Moosh, the funny thing is I was at Mosers site yesterday afternoon. Someone IMed me about Fandango and I was trying to find pics to explain it to them when I stumbled onto SpeedFlip! I was just too busy/ lazy to post about it!

That Music factory ride looks nuts too. Not really for what it does but the fact you can get up and move around while it's spinning and bouncing up and down. (Just watch the video on their site) I doubt that will be coming to the US anytime soon!

I can imagine that the Flying Circus is more fun to watch than to ride, as the ride motions don't seem to be too entertaining (similar to a Chance Inverter but more evil). The ride itself just looks very impressive and powerful.

Avoid real player gold at all costs!

Holy freaking wow. I think I'd have to pass.
