Morey Mystery

In the mid 80's , I remember riding a small wooden coaster at one of Morey's Piers in Wildwood N.J.
I don't remeber the name. I only remember it wasn't very big....I can't find a listing of it anywhere...Does anyone remember a coaster like this?????
Wildwood actually had two small wooden coasters that survived into the 1980's:

The Scream Machine/Screem Machine was located on Marine Pier West (right next door to Dracula's Castle), which is directly across from Mariner's Landing (the home of the Sea Serpent). That was a John Miller design, first opened in 1919 and originally named the Jack Rabbit (same year, same name, and similar size of the coaster at nearby Clementon Lake). It was removed in 1985 (I think) and replaced with "Nickel's Midway Pier", which once had a handful of carnival rides but was converted to a waterpark last year.

You could also be thinking of my beloved Flyer, which was on Hunt's Pier, located right next to Morey's Pier (the one with the Nor'easter). That was a 1957 John Allen coaster, identical to the (also gone) Angela Park, PA "Valley Volcano" and the Wyandot Lake, OH "Sea Dragon" which still operates today. It was bulldozed in February 1989 when the new owners of the pier decided to remove most of the pier's classic "custom" rides and replace them all with Vekoma's Kamikaze, which found a new home at SFOG as the Ninja in 1992. The Flyer holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first real coaster my father "dragged" me on, way back in 1987, and immediately sparked my coaster enthusiasm.

I hope that helps, I have pictures that I can scan if you are interested!
They replaced a classic woody with a Vekoma?!?!

Has anyone here ridden the "Valley Volcano"? I think it was my first coaster but I don't remember too much about it.

Good luck in philly j.r.
Wow! Thank's Rob for the info... I'm thinking it may have been the Flyer... As you walked on to the pier, it was on the left, near the begining... I do seem to recall it may not have been Morey's Pier but one just north of it? Thanks for your help... If a scan isn't much trouble I would appreciate.... Is was a neat little coaster nd I would like to include it in my Track Record....

Believe it or not, they did! They destroyed a bunch of other classic rides as well, like Jungleland, the Pirate Ship walk-through fun house, a miniature train, and two electric car rides. The owners of the pier got what was coming, though... the pier failed miserably and the Kamikaze was sold off three years later.

Still doesn't bring back Hunt's Pier, though...
