More work on new forum

I posted a new build of the forum with the private message stuff. It's not particularly pretty at the moment, but I think it works. Have at it...

Remember that your existing CB login data (as it stood several weeks ago) works there unless you changed it.

The last big piece to handle is the search, which needs a lot of work. Beyond that, everything else I have planned for it won't be done until some time after I rebuild CoasterBuzz. I want to nail the core functionality first, and make it as crazy efficient as possible. Facilitating conversation is my first priority.

As usual, drop a note here if you find something really wacky.

I'm having two out of place cursors with the reply box: One on the top border of the box and the other right in the middle. Middle one blinks, top one is solid.

The blinking one in the middle shows through to other browser tabs when it's in the background, too.

Camino 2006122122 (1.1a1+)

Other than that, everything seems to be working fine, haven't run into any bugs or issues, and damn it's fast, none of that lagging up stuff that this one does.

I'm not planning to support Camino at this point in time.

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

Okay - good news on that front: I just tested from the latest stable version of Camino instead of the nightly builds that I normally run, and that problem doesn't happen.

I just remembered that it's been happening on other sites too, so I'm gonna declare that to be a bug in form handling in the current nightlies.

One minor note was I just went to the forum with the second browser, and the online user list had me listed twice.

I would imagine the only supported browsers would be IE, Firefox, and Safari? Seeing as that's what 99% of the population uses...
Your testing on a nightly build?

That duplicate user thing is annoying. It's pretty rare that anyone would do that normally, but I supposed I need to fix it.

Is it just a timeout from when it will remove the user? It seemed like it when I tested it a while ago.

I stumbled upon it accidently when I closed the wrong tab in IE7 by mistake, and then went back and saw myself logged in twice :)

Update with a new build tonight... search is mostly working as best I can tell. See if you get relevant results for stuff...

A search for "Voyage" returns a lot but a search for "The Voyage" returns nothing?

The same is true of "Son of Beast." It returns no results, but both "Beast" and "SOB" do.

Jeff's avatar
Yeah... that's a fix that I haven't posted yet. "The" is a junk word and is not indexed, so if I don't pull it out, then it gets no results.

OK, that search fix is posted, as are a couple of minor issues with the PM system.

Will there still be color options available for members? I've been using the Ocean color scheme and have gotten quite used to it.

Not when it first launches. I can delay until I can do more skins, or launch with new functionality sooner. They will come, it just may take a couple of weeks. I have some volunteer CSS ninjas who may help out.

More of a question than anything else, but is there a possibility of being fully customizable, or will it be similar to the current setup of pre-set options?

I'm cool with either way, I'm just curious.

There will be preset options. The style sheets are way too big to leave that to chance.
